On Monday, EA gave the world its first look at Mirror's Edge 2. There have been rumors about a sequel for years, and even with some of them being pretty recent, its unveil was a nice surprise. The trailer didn't show off a ton outside the apparent similar gameplay from the first game, but earlier today EA Labels president Frank Gibeau stated Mirror's Edge 2 is an open-world game.
During a conference call, Gibeau said the Mirror's Edge 2 reveal had a "great fan reaction" at E3, and with good reason. The first game is widely popular and a nice break from the usual first-person experiences of today, just it's taken some time for a sequel to appear. When discussing Mirror's Edge 2, Gibeau offered the following:
We're bringing Faith back in this open-world [emphasis added] action adventure game.
We still don't know much more outside of that, but it's nice to see Mirror's Edge 2 is going to allow players to free run over a much larger area than before. Development duties are handled by DICE again, and it's due to arrive on the PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Just don't expect it right away, as it'll launch "when it's ready."
