Harmonix's new game teasers have come to fruition, today announcing they've partnered with Disney to create Fantasia: Music Evolved. No, it's not a dancing game, but it is a Kinect title, as Fantasia: Music Evolved will be coming to both Xbox One and Xbox 360. Err, yeah, so what kind of game is Fantasia then? Harmonix describes it as a "music motion experience" and I think that's the best we'll get until we see the game in motion.
Here's Harmonix's description of Fantasia: Music Evolved:
"Using Kinect motion control technology and natural, controller-free gameplay, players will control the music flow from some of the industry’s biggest acts, including electronic DJ and producer AVICII, chart-topper Bruno Mars, and rock royalty Queen. Fantasia: Music Evolved gives players creative power to change the mix of their favorite songs in real-time, choosing between the original recording and new remixed versions, or adding new layers of music via magical manipulators that allow them to change music in exciting and surprising new ways!"
Basically, the premise behind Fantasia: Music Evolved is that the player is transported to the magical realm of Fantasia to become the apprentice of legendary sorcerer Yen Sid. Then they get to, um, play the game to 25 tracks from modern day's leading artists, which include:
- AVICII – “Levels”
- Bruno Mars – “Locked Out Of Heaven”
- Fun. – “Some Nights”
- Kimbra – “Settle Down”
- Queen – “Bohemian Rhapsody”
Okay, I'll admit it, I have no idea what this game is about. I feel like I'm on hallucinogens when I watch the trailer and I can't wrap my mind around how the game is actually related to anything Disney. Still, the game is made by Harmonix, who is one of the most trusted developers out there, and they've got the backing of Disney, who doesn't just give out licenses and money freely, so... home run?
Fantasia: Music Evolved will be coming to Xbox One and Kinect for Xbox 360. No release date was announced, but we expect to hear more information on the game during E3, which could be just what we're looking for.
