Recent news revolving Dying Light in the past few weeks has been super depressing, what with the announcement that the parkour zombie survival game was pushed from 2014 into 2015. It's time to turn that frown upside down, because Techland has some special news for us today. Despite the delay, Techland has revealed that Dying Light will be shown at E3. To celebrate that fact, they've also released an all new trailer that really focuses on the parkour and extreme violence.
The trailer focuses almost entirely on parkour and combat in Dying Light, making the protagonist seem almost like a zombie apocalypse Batman of sorts. The man can run along walls, jump off of tall buildings, throw a grappling hook and climb onto rooftops instantly, hurdle over cars, and that's just the non-combat traversal options available to him. It's like the protagonist has hollow bones or superhuman agility.
Beyond the parkour, the trailer really starts to dig into the bloody, visceral first-person combat of Dying Light. Sure, there's pistols and guns that can be used to set off explosives or otherwise just shoot zombies dead. What I'm really interested in, however, are the melee weapons. Sharp-edged weapons cut through zombies with Metal Gear Rising-esque angles, the hammer smashes zombie skulls, and if combat looks as good when I'm playing as it does in this trailer, it could have some of the best death and dismemberment animations I've seen in a game.
Dying Light is planned for release in February 2015 on the PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. No wonder if was delayed, what with all of the different platforms it'll have to be scaled and ported to! Good night, good luck.
