Techland is expanding into North America, and they've chosen to open their first branch outside of their native Poland right here in our own backyard of Vancouver, Canada.
Techland's North American branch is called Digital Scapes Studio, and will be led by former Radical Entertainment Technical Director Marcin Chady. He will be joined by fellow Radical alumnus at Digital Scapes, and they've been tasked with working on "certain key elements" in the upcoming action survival horror title Dying Light, scheduled for a 2014 release on current and next-gen platforms including the PS4 and Xbox One.
You may recall that Radical was hit by a number of layoffs back in 2012 which greatly affected the Activision Blizzard subsidiary's ability to continue working on any original IP. The Prototype franchise was one of Radical's best known projects, but sadly its underperformance at retail would lead to the significant reduction in staff.
Radical's tribulations heralded a gloomy time for Vancouver's video game development scene, but Chady naturally still stands behind the "deep talent pool and quality of educated employees" of our fair city given Techland's desire to open up shop here.
