Flash Player quit working...

Hello to all.

I just went on youtube today and instead being able to watch a video, I was faced with the "Hello...Java disabled...old Flash Player" error. I just encountered this today, yesterday it was fine.

I have tried several things to fix this problem, but nothing seems to work.

I've tried downloading the Uninstall.exe and Reinstalling from Adobe.com itself, installing from the stand-alone.exe, both the ActiveX zip file and the exe itself. I've tried using flash to view videos on youtube using Mozilla FireFox 3.5.5, Google Chrome and Internet Explorer 8, all of which give the same result.

I've uninstalled/reinstalled several times, restarting on each occasion but this has not helped.

All of the Java and Flash Player Add-on options on all 3 browsers were double-checked and everything was enabled.

I fail to understand why Flash Player should suddenly cease functioning.

If there is anything else I can try, I'm all for it.

Thanks for your input.

re: Flash Player quit working...

unintall and reinstall the java runtime environment. do the same for the flash player. make sure these are complete uninstalls, meaning actually removing them from the add/remove programs in the control panel.

re: Flash Player quit working...

hiigaran, thank you for the quick reply.

Just 2 things though.

1) I don't see any Java Runtime Environment anywhere in Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs. Would this be, by any chance, the reason why Flash won't work?

2) What I do see in Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs, is an "Adobe Flash Player 10 ActiveX" entry and an "Adobe Flash Player 10 Plugin". Which one do I need and which one should I get rid off?(I'll be ridding off both of them, but need to know which one to reinstall).

re: Flash Player quit working...

it might be, but i dont see why if it was all working before. either way, theres no harm in downloading java and trying it out.

as for flash, try removing both.

Ok, I'll be downloading and installing JRE. I'll also uninstall both Flash Entries and do some work arounds then see if flash and youtube cooperate.

I'll be posting back in a couple of hours.

hiigaran, I thank you once more for the quick reply, and your input.

re: Flash Player quit working...

Still no luck...

Removed both ActiveX 10 and the player plugin from Add/Remove, then restarted. Installed JRE, installed Flash Player 10 from a fresh installer, then proceeded with restart. Disabled Norton Antivirus and Internet Security. Did all this but Youtube still gives the same result.

This is all too strange, considering that I can view flash content anywhere else. I tested this as such that I tried browsing on websites which required FP 10, prior to having it actually installed (having removed it). Those sites displayed the message that some of the content needed the Flash Player plugin in order to view them. After installing in the aforementioned procedure, said content could now be viewed.

Went over to myspace videos and guess what, I can view any video there without any problems whatsoever.

I'm blank here. The problem doesn't seem to be revealing itself. It isn't in Flash, Java, Norton or FireFox.

If there is still anything else I can try...

Thanks again.

re: Flash Player quit working...

ive been doing some reading, and it seems like this works for many people. its basically an uninstaller for flash but it removes all traces of the program. see if that works. though i wouldnt get your hopes high just yet.

re: Flash Player quit working...

Okay, I tried that uninstaller, restarted, and installed FP once more, but...no dice.

However, there is one thing I have yet to touch upon. Registries.
I did an on-line Registry Scan and it came up with 199 errors, 123 being in the ActiveX section. I haven't tried cleaning the registry yet so I'll give that a shot.

Which Registry Cleaner would you recommend?

re: Flash Player quit working...

i doubt it will work, but if you want a registry cleaner, a free program called CCleaner has one.

re: Flash Player quit working...

CCleaner you say?

Okay, I'll give that a try and if it works, good. If it doesn't, well then, I'll just reinstall Windows...

re: Flash Player quit working...

woah, woah, you dont have to go to those lengths man.

also, im assuming that you have not disabled any java options or put a higher security level on your browser?

re: Flash Player quit working... [Fixed]

Alright, it seems to have been fixed. Registry cleaning did the trick, but I'm not too sure about that, though it seems likely. Used CCleaner and the problem seems to have disappeared. Youtube videos are now viewable once more.

I'm just hoping that it doesn't decide to kill itself again...

hiigaran, thanks for all your help and the suggestion of CCleaner. I hope you'll be there when I face problems in the future.
