SSSLLLOOWWW |

My computers been running very slow for a couple days now, the Task Manager shows the CPU usage at 100% I don't have an anti virus Firefox takes up most of the memory but even when it's not running the CPU usage is at 100%. I also have WindowBlinds installed, other than that Yahoo messenger MSN and uTorrent are the only apps. It used to be very fast before.
I have 2 gigs of RAM running Windows XP 2.00GHz CPU Any help? ------------------- Never Opened myself this way

quote undertaker4ever Might want to get one and scan your computer for viruses then, they have CPU Usage as well. Lifehacker asked it's users to make a list of the ones they liked best, displayed the top five voted, then looked at those to find the best one. I'd suggest choosing one of those and running a full scan of your computer. Another thing to look at is what things could be running in the background, that maybe you've forgotten about or simply didn't know about. Right click on your taskbar, select Task Manager, and then go to Preferences. You can organize what's running by memory usage, and CPU usage. Look at the things on top of both lists, see what's up. If there's some that appear each time your computer starts up that you don't want running, type msconfig into your run command, or the Vista/Win7 Start Menu Search Thing; Go to the Startup tab, and find that process. ------------------- ![]() // more agile than a president dodging a shoe //

I've tried a couple Anti Viruses everytime I seem to have a problem with the P2P applications. I can't pay for an anti virus.

download AVG for your anti virus, and Spybot for your anti spyware. with Spybot, make sure you activate the immunisation. these are both free programs.
if your computer is slow, you might as well check out my speed up computer guide. the link is in my sig. -------------------

Try AVG, Avast or Clam AV / Clam Win... as far as I know, there a free versions of them available.
If you want to get your computer scanned, though, there are two pages that can do it, one on Symantec (makes Norton AV), and one on Kaspersky. A virus is teh most likely cause of a slowdown, although depending on the number of addons installed on Firefox, it could slow it, right the hell down. If your downloading on P2P, then it is mainly a firewall that affects your speed on that, so you can either add exceptions for the connections for them, or just close the firewall down, whilst your downloading. Although they can slow down your connection, it is recommended that you have it installed, to increase security... most aren't really a huge hog on resources anyway. ------------------- I could be brown I could be blue I could be violet sky I could be hurtful I could be purple I could be anything that you like

re: SSSLLLOOWWW |
quoteactually, its not viruses, but spyware that will slow your system down. while viruses can still do that, spyware is much more common. and its not the add ons on firefox that slow it down. its the actual program. it has always had a memory issue, using several hundreds of megabytes of RAM. a lighter alternative browser to firefox is Opera or Chrome. -------------------

I realized it's not just Firefox, when I'm on the internet the computer is slow and by on the internet I mean when I'm browsing, if I'm downloading something in uTorrent the system seems to be a little faster, And hiigaran I saw the speed up your computer thing in your sig, it's too confusing. @_@
