Ip conflict.

This error message always comes up. then it keeps trying to logon but is just stuck. I try pressing repair.. it just gets stuck on "renewing ip address"
Is there any way to stop this? It is not allowing me to logon to the internet on my laptop.

re: Ip conflict.

click start --> run --> CMD --> hit enter (XP)
Click start --> CMD --> Hit enter (Vista)

Type:

iconfig /release --> then hit enter
ipconfig /renew --> then hit enter, then wait. That should release your IP and request for a new IP address from the DHCP server.

"no operation can be performed on local area connection while it has its media disconnected"? what does this mean or do i have to do a different way with wireless connection?

re: Ip conflict.

That means your ethernet cable is disconnected. Are you using wireless or wired connection?
Wire connection, you will need to connect an ethernet cable to your laptop.
Wireless connection, make sure that you have access to the wireless access point and that you have a decent signal.

re: Ip conflict.

Okay, then you can ignore the wired connection error as you are going wireless.

When you run ipconfig /renew, what do you see in the command prompt on the wireless netowrk card? Since you machine obviously have 2 network card (1 wired and 1 wireless), please post what you see as the setting for the wireless card. If you are still getting a IP conflict, you might want to consider as a test to input a static IP to your wireless network card.
