I came across the same problem but got it sorted.

1 - Start up AVG,click Update Now.
2 - The list of updates is shown in Popup, click on the more information link.A list of updates will be shown.
3 - Click on and save all updates in a file except the last one - http://downloadfree.avg.com/update/u7iavi1616oo.bin - because this is causing the problem.
4 - Cancel the update and instead click on Tools > Update from Directory and go to the file where you saved the updates.Install these and AVG should be working properly again.

This solution doesnt works for me. When i click on ur link, it sais it has problems with connecting. I got on problems with my internet connection though

This route works. The site itself kept crashing because no doubt everyone is trying this approach. But persevere because it does work

I have the answer! I got this from another board with the same issues....and it works! You don't need to uninstall and reinstall - that won't work. Here's what you do:

1) go to http://www.grisoft.com/ww.download-updat...
2) make a directory (new folder) on your desktop called AVG
3) from the website I listed, download AVI: 270.6.4
4) from the website I listed, download IAVI: / 1616
5) when you open each of these files, save the download to the directory (new folder on desktop) you made called AVG
6) launch AVG (click on your AVG icon)
7) select tools -> update from directory
8) select the directory (new folder file from desktop) called AVG where you put the downloads
9) As soon as you click that folder, your updates will start and will be complete

I tried to click on the 'more information' button as you said, but the link doesn't work

so it is really a problem form avg an we're still protected anyway?
