Yeppers, the same thing happened to me. It's working ok now that I followed the above directions
1 - Start up AVG,click Update Now.
2 - The list of updates is shown in Popup, click on the more information link.A list of updates will be shown.
3 - Click on and save all updates in a file except the last one - http://downloadfree.avg.com/update/u7iavi1616oo.bin - because this is causing the problem.
4 - Cancel the update and instead click on Tools > Update from Directory and go to the file where you saved the updates.Install these and AVG should be working properly again.

i'm also having this problem. i've reinstalled the program but its still there.

How about firefighters? I was a "Volunteer" fireman, I had to go through fire 'standards' the same as all paid fireman, because 78% of American Firefighters are volunteers.

Suppose I said what the hell , you really can't complain that I could not work the hurst tools fast enough to free you from a car wreck, but hey you are getting the service free!

If you put it out there and tell people to depend on it, then it dammn well better be dependable whether or not you received compensation for it should never be an issue.

And as for me, I'll keep my right to complain about any service as I see fit, thank you very much.

Dub's method will work, however I am not trying it because it is a short term solution that may mess things up when AVG sends out the next update to fix the problem poeple have. Imo. better to leave it so that AVG knows what we have and so that it gets fixed well by the next update.

1:00 CDT (GMT -6). I am having the same problem, but I can't do the fix you mentioned. Unfortunately, I uninstalled and reinstalled the whole thing and I can no longer manually update. Hopefully they will get a fix soon so that I can fix with an automatic update?

Is this a gimmick from AVG so that we have to purchase the $50 plus software? I got the message today too

Here is the step-wise solution:

a)Open a new folder on your desktop and name it, say, "avg".

b) Go to: http://free.avg.com/ww.download-update and download the update dated Aug 11, 2008, and the two updates dated Aug 16, 2008, by saving the update files in the new folder named "avg" you have on your desktop.

c) Open AVG user interface on your computer.

d) Go to Tools --> Update from directory --> Desktop --> avg and click on "OK".

e) Your AVG will update itself without any error message of any .bin file missing.

The problem will be resolved.

The avg download sites mentioned above are offline :-(
