Anyone who has played Bastion knows Supergiant Games. Anyone who hasn't played Bastion should probably go do that right now. It's one of my personal favorite games of the last few years and I know I'm not the only one on Neoseeker's staff who'd say that. That's why it's one of the most exciting times of the year right now. Supergiant Games will be releasing Transistor on May 20. Please excuse me melting a little bit now that they've released the game's launch trailer.
Descriptions of Transistor up to this point have been intentionally vague. A red haired woman in a yellow gown. A weapon of mysterious power and origin. A futuristic city as dark and terrifying as it is beautiful. Don't expect Transistor's launch trailer to give away any hints -- Supergiant Games likes this air of intrigue. It's part of what made Bastion so great. There does seem to be an elevator. Is that a metaphor? It's a metaphor.
I attribute a lot of Supergiant Games' success to their style of development. They had a hugely successful title in Bastion and could easily have grown, but for the most part chose to stay small. I think this style lends itself an amazing sympathetic link between all aspects of the game. The music, the gameplay, the narrative, the art style all flow into this beautiful experience -- at least in Bastion. I've got to say, it's impossible not to have similar feelings when seeing this Transistor launch trailer.
Transistor will be available on PC and PlayStation 4 starting May 20. What is the Transistor? You'll have to play to find out.
