Mario Mario is Mario's whole name and Luigi Mario is Luigi's whole name.

There called Mario Brothers. That means both of their last names is Mario.

Mario and Luigi can't be Italian if they were born in the Mushroom Kingdom.

Ha, ha, ha, I'm registered now. It's about time someone replied to this thread. Of course Luigi was never a plumber, but Mario is, after leaving his job as a carpenter. I always knew that they were Italian, but the part on how I also thought they were from the Magic Kingdom didn't make any sense. But after reading your reply, it all makes sense now. They left Italy and went to the Magic Kingdom to rescue Peach and decided to live there afterwords. These two Italian men took residence in this mysterious land, so yes, they can be Italian and from the Mushroom Kingdom (residentially wise). Also, if their last names were Lakita, then wouldn't they be pronounced, the Lakita Brothers instead of the Mario Brothers? It makes more sense of there names being Mario Mario and Luigi Mario, I read it in a Nintendo Power magazine too. But if that's what the movie said, then somethings very wrong. Oh well, whatever.

Mario & Luigi's last name is indeed Mario. And in the movie they state that fact several times... Don't get me wrong though that movie is horrible, and has nothing to do with the Super Mario Bros. that we all know and love. And as MarioMario2004 stated, that is why they are called the "Super Mario Brothers" and not the "Super Lakita Brothers."

Yes, of course they are italian, but they are not from Italy. They are from Brooklyn New York. (As stated in the Mario Mania players guide.)

And they are both plumbers. They both have the same pulmber's overalls and hats. In the original Mario Bros. game (the first game featuring Luigi.) the Mario bros. job is to dispose of all the creatures coming out of the pipes in a single sewer-like level. Hence, they are plumbers, clearing out the pipes.

Uh... Are you guys sure that Mario is their last name? If you guys played Yoshi's Island before, then you'll know that the two are twins, but that doesn't automatically mean that the last name is Mario. The only way we'll know for sure is if we were to actually ask the creator of Mario himself. We can speculate all we want, but that doesn't mean we'll be anywhere near correct.

I'm not speculating, Shigeru Miyamato has confirmed that Mario is the last name of both Mario and Luigi.

If you really want to get technical, mario's original name was jumpman!

when the first ever donkey kong game was released (the one with peach and the monkey throws barrels and you have to get to the top, featured in DK 64) mario was the charecter you played and his name was jumpman, nintendo later changed the name.

Wow, I cannot believe it has been over a year since I have last posted in this thread.

I would like to point out that BOTH Mario AND Luigi are plumbers.

I would also like to point that that yes, indeed, that Super Mario Bros. movie REALLY, REALLY, REALLY sucked. Mario was like 40 years old, and Luigi was like 20. Bowser was a human being, and the koombas were giant lizard. Yoshi was a Vilosaraptor, LOL.

I own the VERY FIRST video game that featured both Mario and Luigi. It is called "Mario Bros," for the Atari 2600 (1983), and I own it. Both Mario and Luigi are ridding the pests of the sewer lines, hence, they ARE BOTH PLUMBERS INDEED!
