Early sales numbers are coming in for the PlayStation 4 and the news is good. Sony has confirmed that the PlayStation 4 is their fastest selling console ever, with over one million units sold within the 24-hours of release. That's units sold, not shipped. Shelves across the country are empty as consoles quickly sell out as soon as they're restocked. Hopefully everyone was able to pick their's up early!
Sony President of World-Wide Studious Shuhei Yoshida was heard to have said the following via Twitter:
" :D "
As should be apparent, Sony is quite happy with the numbers that they're pulling in. It should be noted, however, that these numbers are exclusive to the North American region, as the PlayStation 4 has yet to be released in different territories. For instance, it will launch in Europe on November 29 and Japan next spring.
Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Andrew House offered his thoughts on the PlayStation 4 with respect to the upcoming launches:
"We are thrilled that consumer reaction has been so phenomenal. Sales remain very strong in North America, and we expect continued enthusiasm as we launch the PlayStation 4 in Europe and Latin America on November 29th."
No word yet on what the platforms leading software is yet, but we can probably put money on it being Call of Duty: Ghosts for all titles and Killzone: Shadow Fall for exclusives.
It's great news to hear that Sony's PlayStation 4 is doing so well, but not so surprising considering just how excited gamers have been for truly next-gen platforms for some time. In fact, Microsoft, I believe is expecting similar sales numbers for their Xbox One when the console launches later this week. That's a million PS4s and a million Xbones in a week. How insanely awesome is that? Video games are amazing.
