MMO Aspect - How do you feel about it?

Bungie has been known for having breath-taking campaigns and awesome multiplayer throughout the years because of the Halo franchise. However, now they are focusing on making a game that is centered around MMO-type gameplay, how do you feel about this? Do you think the company as a whole should focus on a campaign or continue to go the way they are aiming?

Well we already know that it's going to be a microtransaction filled mess thanks to the leaks from court orders. Oh joy I can't wait to buy all them stuff that I should be unlocking and earning instead!


As you can tell, I don't feel good. At all.

Could one of you guys elaborate/link to the info on the court-order stuff? I haven't heard about that.

I've played two MMOs, one was "very good" (to me anyway, I played it a ton and enjoyed it), and one is eh alright. First was Star Wars Galaxies, second was Star Wars The Old Republic. As you guys can guess I'm a SW fan. I play TOR even though it's not a good MMO just because of the setting. My point is that MMOs have a fairly fine line between quality and mediocrity, and that line usually gets drawn pretty quickly. If you don't start strong and go full steam ahead, you're usually in trouble. Hopefully Bungie either has a fantastic gasp on the concept of an FPSMMO, or they're bringing in consultants from companies that do. That's really all I'm worried about, and I'm not even that worried. All in all I'm excited for the game, and I'm happy with the concept, and I believe it will be executed as well as anything Bungie does.

I don't know how reliable Polygon is but almost all the information minus the timed exclusivity (which could still happen since they haven't announced a release date yet) and PC port was right.

Turned out to be Court documents. Damn you fuzzy memory. It's almost a given that a game like this will be doing it, I don't mind micro-transactions mind you but only when they are used tastefully and to better players and developers (and yes even you greedy publishers) alike. Take a note on Mass Effect 3, random system thats offset by easy to gain credits and all MP dlc is free because of it (no doubt the funds they make also help with their ridiculously overpriced SP dlc as well).

If it goes like that then I'll welcome it with open arms, provided it benefits everyone and not just the dirty greedy publisher.



....Sadly mass effect seems to be the exception when it comes to microtransactions.

They need to have tried this once for MMO, if that doesn't work, they can always go back to the style they were with Halo and Marathon were. Hopefully it works for them, because usually MMOs are not a fail.

They have so much to work with, focusing only on consoles will help them improve the game and make it the best they can. I don't look at it as a "they have to try and see how it works out" more like "If it is their vision, they will make it work since they have a big name to hold up due to their previous success with Halo.

Yes, but sooner or later people are going to give up on the Halo success for Bungie as years go by, since 343 took over. It may not be a big deal for a while, but if Bungie plays their cards right with Destiny it could resemble and/or emulate success for Bungie's continued future as a video game developer.

I wouldn't consider Destiny a mmo though. It has mmo elements but they are warped. Personally I like the new approach and can trust Bungie to do a very good job with it

I find games this gen being more of a badly designed single player, a poor co op, and the multiplayer that has honestly hit a low point, it's just the same thing over and over whether it is 1st person or 3rd person or just with a different title each time. This new approach is not fighting each other for a new weapon unlock but working together in this virtual world for a common goal. What I like is that they seem to go to an approach of connection between your peers not just yourself like this current gen.

On the Micro transactions well if people don't buy the game well shit they will try everything to get money for the next game. This is why Destiny is multiplatform it is a new experience. I can trust Bungie enough though not to turn into a CoD/Gears and add transactions for greed.

And on 343's side and Halo I don't like the direction they took the series Halo was really my last hope for this gens FPS but 343 blew it.

I can feel Destiny being a really great title there is something strange with it that is just very appealing to me something most games don't do.


EDIT: I did like Halo 4 with it's campaign though I can give 343 credit for a great job on that.

Can't wait for Destiny. The MMO aspect is welcome, but from what I've heard it isn't primarily an MMO. It sounds super unique and like nothing I've ever played before, so I'm really excited.

Destiny shows a lot of promise. It's going to be huge, I wonder how big the world will be, compared to other games.
