Nintendo announced today the release of a brand new all black Nintendo 3DS XL available starting August 11, the same day that Mario & Luigi: Dream Team is released. The XL will be priced similarly to other handhelds of the same model, that is, at $199.99 with no in-package games. Hard to believe that after all this time there isn't a readily available black 3DS XL on store shelves. Well, at least we're fixing that now.
What's disappointing, however, is that Nintendo came out and said earlier this year that it was the "Year of Luigi." Yet now that one of the main titles featuring Luigi is being released, instead of the very cool looking Luigi-themed 3DS XL we get an all black one. Heck, the Shin Megami Tensei IV 3DS XL is the best themed 3DS I've ever seen, but was it released with this game earlier this month? No way. At least we get plain black, right?
That's what we'll have to tell ourselves over and over. At least we're getting black, because considering how outstandingly popular themed 3DS XLs are in Japan they're still not good enough for release in the US. Never mind that Pikachu 3DS that sold out virtually instantly across the country, or the Animal Crossing 3DS XL that's also very successful. Black will do. Expect it August 11 for $199.99.
