In Murdered: Soul Suspect you are tasked with uncovering a murderer -- your own, actually. An ARG that began earlier this month revealed as much, but Square Enix is now "officially announcing" the game along with its platform and release schedule. Expect the twisty detective game in early 2014 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. Yes, Murdered Soul Suspect is a current generation game.
An accompanying teaser trailer gives a decent look at, well, the quality of cinematic trailer that Murdered will feature. A fashionable man, either a modern hipster or a the game is set a few decades back, falls backwards through a window whilst pulling a pistol from his vest -- a la Trinity from the Matrix. Intermixed are a few cuts of said tattooed hipster's ghost being walked through by pedestrians. Yup, he's dead alright. No Neo swooped in to save this guy when he was falling.
So far my only issue with the game is thus, while the promise of solving your own murder is an exciting one (Ghost Trick) it's impossible to tell from this teaser trailer what genre of game Murdered: Soul Suspect is and what sort of tone it's trying to set. I kind of get a noire vibe from it, but I'm not entirely sure. Is it meant to be spooky? I can feel an Indigo Prophecy vibe from it... but, well, time will tell.
Look forward to more news on Murdered: Soul Suspect in coming months, but don't expect much since it's a 2014 title. Also, what' with the current generation platforms? I guess a solid install base is better than the lure of a new console. Or will they have backwards compatibility? Ha, yeah right.
