Ahoy, Ubisoft has just delivered an Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag trailer painting the setting for the game, teasing both the historical inspiration of the game while also keeping us focused on where the fun will be. I'd say about 10% history, 90% things that people want in a video game. "True Golden Age of Piracy" promises us the world, rather like its band of merry pirates likely expected from their adventures.
By far the best part of the trailer is the introduction of the cast of pirates we'll be introduced to in Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag:
- Benjamin Hornigold
- Calico Jack
- Charles Vane
As per the usual in the Assassin's Creed franchise, these are real people and well-known pirates at that. It should be noted that all four of these pirates ended up dead between 1718 and 1721. Luckily, Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag takes place in 1715! Hmm, I wonder if that's a spoiler? It's history! Blame history for spoiling your video games.
Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag is planned for release on October 29 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Wii U and PC. It'll then come to next-gen systems as they are launched later in the year. Do what you want, 'cause a pirate is free.
