While it may not be blockbuster news, I always have had a soft spot in my heart for Ys, so when they announce the release date for their upcoming remastered PC release I'm all ears. Ys I & II Chronicles+ will be coming to PC via Steam on Valentine's Day, February 14, for $14.99. Oh, to once against experience the ancient land of Ys for the first time once more... tis but a dream.

One part Secret of Mana, one part Legend of Zelda, Ys joins the modern age with a bevy of updates to make the title more palatable for a new audience. The updated release will feature several different customizable options for sound and graphics, allowing players to choose between several art styles. You can even swap between the classic 80's FN-synth soundtrack or a modern, heavy metal rendition.

Ys' classic action combat is still exactly as it was twenty, no, thirty years ago, luckily. Japanese developer Nihon Falcom and the localization team at XSEED Games have worked at length to retain that original feel. Now we just need Ys III, IV, V and VI available on PC too.

For many gamers Ys filled the role that Zelda and Mario did with western audiences. $15 may be on the edge of what I'd recommend paying for the bundle, but with all of the upgrades it's probably worth at least checking to see if it's something you like.
