Karthus, the Deathsinger, is a champion which was released June 12^th, 2009.

Ability	Description	Rank Up
Patch: v1.0.0.118
Death Defied	Upon dying, Karthus enters a spirit form, which allows him to continue casting spells for 7 seconds. During this time, his abilities cost no mana.
Lay Waste	(Active): Creates a delayed blast at the cursor position. After a half a second delay, it will deal magic damage to each nearby enemy. The damage is doubled if it hits only a single unit.	Cost: 20 / 26 / 32 / 38 / 44 mana Ramge to Center of AoE: 875 Radius of AoE: 100 Cooldown: 1 second Magic Damage (Multiple Targets): 40 / 60 / 80 / 100 / 120 (+0.3 per ability power) Magic Damage (Single Target): 80 / 120 / 160 / 200 / 240 (+0.6 per ability power)
Wall of Pain	(Active): Karthus creates a wall between 2 obelisks at target position. Any enemy passing this wall have their armor, magic resistance, and movement speed reduced for 5 seconds. The wall lasts 5 seconds.	Cost: 100 mana Range to Center of Wall: 1,000 Cooldown: 18 seconds Wall Length: 800 / 300 / 1,000 / 1,100 / 1,200 Maximum Wall Sight: 1,300 / 1,325 / 1,350 / 1,375 / 1,400 (estimate) Armor and Magic Resist Reduction: 15 / 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 Slow: 40 / 50 / 60 / 70 / 80%
Defile	(Toggle) - Off: When Karthus kills a unit, he restores mana.	Mana Restored: 20 / 27 / 34 / 41 / 48 per kill

Ok, I love this champion currently. Love the passive, love defile and love how trolling his ultimate is. Also love how the Wall of Pain slow and the double damage Lay waste can do. But I would like to hear how you guys play him. I personally rush Athene's unholy grail

This is how the majority of people will play Karthus.
I personally rush an Archangel's Staff and Rylai's Crystal Scepter. Karthus maxes it fast, and Rylai's helps you keep them in Defile if they avoid Wall of Pain.

Hmm I never thought about using Rylai's of Karthus. It would certainly add a bit of tankyness and scare the living *bleep* out of them, forever doomed to stay in defile

. So far my build is: Sorcerer's shoes, Athene's, Archangel's, Rod of Ages, Void Staff and Rabadon's. I might switch out RoA for Rylai's even though I use RoA on most mages, hmmm... And I wouldn't usually take void staff on any AP champion but Karthus is my exception as that ultimate just seems to need that penetration... Ohh decisions are hard. I'll test a range of builds and see which I like best

It depends on how you want to play him. Are you taking the usual Flash + Exhaust/Ignite summoners or are you wanting to play the Revive + Teleport Karthus? Are you wanting to rush into the middle of the fight and suicide or are you trying to stay back and pick people off with Lay Waste? You are going to want to build quite differently with those two play-styles, so it's really up to how you play him.

I will generally rush RoA into Deathcap. After that I will get Void Staff if the enemy team is building magic resist, or I will go for a Zhonya's if there are a lot of team fights. If I'm laning against someone that is slowly poking me down then I will tend to lean more towards a WoTA and Rylai's. Rarely, if ever, will I buy Archangels - and even Athenes doesn't really seem needed unless you're playing very passively.

I feel Karthus is meant to be played as a suicide AP. That being said, it's the only way I've ever played him so it's the only way I can help you.

Not only does Karthus do damage after death, he scares the living hell out of the enemy team in life. They know he is a high-threat priority, and they need to kill him and do not allow themselves to fight under his damage radius'.

This doesn't mean you should initiate as Karthus. When the fight starts however, you lunge yourself at their team and prevent them from escaping or attacking your Ranged AD with your Wall. I would suggest having a Zhonya's before teamfights because the 2 extra seconds of invulnerability while you are still doing 200+ damage to anyone in your defile, and your team is still attacking them while they try to figure out if they should wait around for you or back off, or focus another target.

Karthus doesn't even have to target the enemy's carry's, as he will hurt the bruisers and tanks in his defile and give the fighting edge to your team.

I take standard AP runes, at least standard for me: Magic Pen Marks, Mana Regen Per Level Seals, Magic Resist per level Blues, and a choice of AP Quints or Movespeed Quints (I personally love movespeed on most AP Carry's, besides Cass who gets a movespeed buff anyways. If you can't catch them, 15 AP isn't helping you).

Summoners I suggest are Flash combined with Ignite, Exhaust, or Teleport. I feel Karthus utilizes Teleport much more effectively than other AP Carries. Boots+3Pots to start off with, Mana Crystal+2Pots if you don't think you'll be taking much harass, or don't need the early boots. In my opinion Mana Crystal works well against Morgana, who pushes a lane fast but has weak opportunity to harass. Rush Catalyst into RoA, then Zhonya's. Your early game should consist of farming, ganking if you have teleport, and making sure to communicate with your team to ult when your jungler ganks. After Zhonya's, Rabadons, Rylai's, Abyssal, Deathfire, Athene's, WotA, many items are viable with Karthus and depending on your team and the enemies team.

Good luck to you sir. He has a rather high skill cap and it will take practice learning when to be all-in, but he is so much fun and a real terror.

I've never been in high enough games for people to play him efficiently. Though I think he's a great carry, if whoever plays him follows that video... ._.

Like, it's great that he can do that, and it's great that it does a lot of damage and it secures kills, but the only humor or interest I'd get out of it in the end is the raging of the other team like in the video.

Plus, as the person on the other team against that, it'd drive me nuts not being able to find the damn Karthus.

I don't play Karthus too regularly so I don't have any sage words of wisdom for you there. When I do play him I build catalyst -> Rod of Ages ->Will of the Ancients -> Rabadon's ->Rylai's -> Gunblade. The Will of the Ancients gives a decent amount of AP and the spell vamp is just awesome on him. More often than not I'll also grab an early Morello's Evil Tome to get the CDR on his ulti ;D

Why does everyone ignore Archangel's for Karthus? Ok, I understand why you guys don't take athene's, but that extra 100 or so AP is definitely a nice catch with archangel's. I used to run heal port but I am so running revive port now. Didn't think about that
