Seeing as this thread has had the shit bumped out of it...

When I found "the range"(read as learned to use it properly) it took me about 4hours to get the gold camo. So yeah, it's pretty dang good.

I think it's because shotguns are hard to balance from a game standpoint. I mean IRL a shotgun can kill up to about 40 yards (120 feet) though how do you translate that to a game? In a game if a hip firing weapon could one shot you from across the map there would be outrage, we saw it in MW2 with the Akimbo Model 1887's which had a range of about 20ft in game and that was still a good 100ft short of it's IRL range. It's a hard thing to balance as if you make it too short range it's ineffective but too long range it becomes OP, so it doesn't surprise me that they have issues balancing shotguns.

well.. to me shotguns are quite OP already. (most definitely the Striker in MW3..) the two things that make it not as OP is the range and pumping it. the KSG is my fav. shotgun in mw3, black ops 2 thts a gun to use to train.. that and alsp try the Balista. the S12 and the last shotgun to unlock are pretty OP. the KSG i c y tht wouldnt b OP, if ur not the best at accuracy anyways.

I use KSG. Heck, I use everything except for snipers. I'm a very versatile noob (I'm serious. I even pick up random weapons off the ground and kill with them. And then I'm like, lolz i just killed u with something i found on da ground XD), and I believe that's why this gun was love at third sight. This was actually the first shotgun I used in the game (local with friends, not online) and it sucked. When I first ventured out of MP7 and B23R territory in my very early online days (Not to say I don't use them, I still do. They are my two weapons with the most kills, respectively), I used the RMGT. It was meh. I started trying some other weapons, and when I tried the KSG, I hated it. I tried the HAMR, M27, SWAT, 5-7, the list goes on. Every so often, I would try to use KSG again and I failed each time. After a while, I realised that my problem with the two shotguns which I had tried was their low fire rate, so I tried the S12. Iwas initially put off from trying it because of its low damage, but because I had basic training in 5-7 trolling, my fast trigger finger made it lethal. Long barrel, laser sight and extended mag were the way to go. After a long time of S12 (which had put it #3 on my 'Deadliest Weapons' list in my combat record, where it remains to this day), I decided to try KSG again and, to my suprise, I pwned. KSG is amazing, it just isn't the best way to get used to the shotgun class after using an SMG, or something of the sort, for so long.
For a shotgun noob, DON'T USE THE KSG. Get used to using a shotgun first with S12 or the RMGT, then use KSG. Currently, I use both S12 and KSG. Which one I use depends on my mood, as does my using a shotgun at all. For KSG, I only started using it 1-2 days ago and I already have 114 kills of which over 100 are one-shots, and I didn't even use it more than half the time. That's pretty good for a noob like me.
I use long barrel and laser sight, and I'll equip quickdraw once I get it. The strategy is running and gunning, so make sure to have lightweight and/or extreme conditioning (I use both). Remember to double tap R1 to shoot while sprinting. ADS is not usually necessary. Be mindful of the lower accuracy, and always give yourself some space in case you miss. Sometimes however, you may want to use the RMGT strategy (i.e. sprint, quick ADS, shoot, keep going) and that's where the quickdraw kicks in. Of course the RMGT is naturally better at the latter, but sometimes you may want that extra range and single-slug. RMGT is very comfortable and easy to use, whereas mastering the KSG is hard work. But, ultimately, in my opinion, the KSG, if properly tamed, is much better than the RMGT. But remember, I am a noob, not even prestige 1 yet, and I would love some tips on how to use both, particularly the RMGT, more effectively. (lolz dat was like 600 words-I just wrote an essay )
