I get what they're going for, but I really want Chespin to grow a back full of spines, rather than expand on the 'hood' aspect myself.

I hear ya, this one plays up a ninja aspect, but I think a more intimidating looks, like the spikes, is more likely. I'm fine with whatever, I love him, I love them all, I just hope the evolutions just don't let me down!!
