Double Fine's adventure game Broken Age is now available! Well, kind of. It's available to a limited few and only a portion of it is available, but apparently this is how Double Fine has to release the game to keep afloat and so we'll run with it. Broken Age "Act 1" is available now to Kickstarter backers via a semi-complicated Humble Store-to-Steam process. Everyone else will get a chance to play "Act 1" starting January 28.
Initially Double Fine was planning on putting out an initial portion of Broken Age as an early release project. When news of that came out it wasn't very well received from backers and fans alike. Why would a game funded through Kickstarter need to do early release? Obviously the backlash didn't sit well, so instead Double Fine focused on some episodic gameplay it seems. Act 1 is half the experience and Act 2 is the other.
I'm sure most folk are wishing they'd backed Broken Age when it was still known as the Double Fine Adventure! There's still the option to pre-order Broken Age digitally, but it's too late to get into the early access party. Don't worry, everyone will get to play it soon enough. It'll be worth the wait. In the mean time check out the latest trailer for the adventure game.
