Is the control system quite difficult. This is my only quarrel about getting it on Xbox, as, like you, I've played the previous games on the PS2.

Well, did it take long for you to get used to them? I don't mind, I often learn quickly.

I beleive that the buttons were all the same on the previous games, thus it was quite easy to control the game. I don't know about SSX3 on the PS2, I'll ask my friend when he gets it on there.

What's the actual game like then? Are the effects, graphics and gameplay as good as they say?

I, unfortunatly, won't be getting this till Friday.

I agree. I have heard there is a way to change the controller settings but have not found out how, I haven't been able to do a handspring yet, but I really don't see much use for it. the jumps are worth a lot more than a handspring.

Okay... for you guys that are already into Peak 3, I need some help! I don't know how many times I've done the Peak 1 Race for the Gold (at least 15 or 20), but I still can't get it!! My acceleration and speed and edging are maxed, I take all the shortcuts I can find, but I still get screwed at the end and am out of time near the last breakaway glass thing just before the final approach to the finish line.

This is sucking intensely!! Am I just lame, or what? (Don't answer that.)

I did the Metro City race again (to get Gold, again) just to see what my best time usually is in that section, and it's 2:48 pretty consistently. I'm trying to figure out where my problem is, since I've gotten Golds in all the races on that peak. I know the transitions between tracks can bog me down if I don't have enough boost, but I don't know what else it could be.

Please help me, you guys! I know it's hard to describe with just typing, but can you try to tell me which lines of racing you use in Happiness, Snow Jam, and Metro City (and the transitions in between)? Are there some massive shortcuts anywhere that I may be missing?

Don't know about the differeces in characters myself, the only one I've got maxed is Allegra. But it makes sense if you look at tricky's stat system.

The peak jam races are really hard to get gold in. The one time I managed to get gold on peak 1 jam I was cutting it very close (less than 10 seconds left). I recall doing it around 5 times before I finally managed to pull it off (and that was after maxing the stats). A few pointers you probably already know:


1. Don't fall down, slow down first. Falling down eats up time and then you move slow after, if you just slow down you take out the falling down half-seconds (which can make or break these races).

2. Don't loose focus. It's a race not a freestyle, while boost is cool if you spend 7 seconds going up and down in a jump, you could probably have cut alot of the jump and be further along if you tried. Also, go pick short uber tricks and only use those for the times when you are in the air. Not saying don't trick, just know what you're doing.

3. Rail like it's going out of style, it's almost always faster.

4. Cutting corners is not always a good idea. Thick snow slows you down alot, while the actual path is usually pretty quick (compacted snow).


Anyway, my path:
At the start of Happiness I always go left, it seems shorter.

No remarkable shortcuts for Snow Jam, but leaving snow Jam going to metro city as soon as you enter the cave go left, there's a small shortcut.

At the start of Metro city go left through the out of bounds sign (there's rail) it cuts through the buildings and then comes to a jump where you can go over a building. Take all of the over and through the building jumps you can and try to rail as much as possible. You have to get really close to a platinum race time in Metro City to get gold the way I did it.


Anybody know any better shortcuts? I still haven't got gold on any of the other peak races (I haven't tried them alot either though).

For Metro City on the peak 1 race theres a faster way (or at least it is for me)
As you drop in from the rest of the track take the same little alley to the left then down the first rail, then veer to the right and down that rail.
Keep on the ground going over the hill and the straight between the two corners and launch and get some more boost.
Then use the kicker in the middle of the track to launch back onto another path.
Go down that then go left through the out of bounds sign and over the building. Then just grind all the rails you come across and that should get you to the end with plenty of time left or a platinum if you're just dong the race
