Happens when you're going slightly too fast, in any car, brake a bit harder before you lift the clutch. You won't get a minor for it unless you lose "control" of the vehicle, which is very unlikely. You'll never get one for being too slow though.

Instructors/examiners don't care about that when it comes to learners though, they want you going as slow as possible when approaching a junction etc, so they'd rather you brake hard and go into second than keep the engine speed and stay in third.

Whilst we're on the subject of engine braking, I hate doing it. I have a Vauxhall Nova which has a big bore exhaust (one of those loud exhausts chavs put on their cars to pretend their driving an Impreza) and when I shift down, it *bleep*ing roars lol. Admittedly, it does actually sound good, but it's a *bleep*ing Nova haha. It's embarrassing, but I got the car for free, it's a 1.6 with 130bhp and will put most other cars that challenge me (mostly fellow chav cars like Saxos, 106s, Corsas etc) to shame. Still, it's not ideal

I got my Theory exam tomorrow. I really, really hope to pass as I can book my practical strait away and then I should be on the roads come the end of the summer.

Good luck, I passed mine two weeks ago and like you thought i'd fail as I hardly did any revision but I passed, it's just the luck of what questions you get as most of them are common sense.

Unlucky, It really is the luck of the questions. If I resat mine i'm sure id fail.

I find drving the easy bit too, observations are the hard part.

I know of someone who got stuck in a traffic jam and passed. All he did was drive to the town centre which takes about 5mins, then got stuck because of an accident on the motorway for 30mins, then on the way back did a 3 point turn I think. If you make no mistakes then you will pass. The only way he could've failed would've been stopping in one of the yellow box things or rolling in neutral I guess.
