Full Name ~ Football Club Halifax Town
Nickname ~ The Shaymen
Founded ~ 2008
Ground ~ The Shay
Capacity ~ 14,061
League ~ Blue Square North

BRIEF HISTORY

FC Halifax Town were formed and created in 2008. Earlier that year Halifax Town AFC went out of business due to a huge tax debt of over £800,000 which they were unable to pay off. When the new FC Halifax Town club was created it was decided by the Football Association that they would start in level 8 of English football. Since that season FC Halifax Town have managed 2 promotions and find themselves in the Blue Square North Division.

THE HERE AND NOW - June 2013

Manager Neil Aspin was sacked at the end of the 2012/2013 season after failing to reach the Blue Square North Playoffs. He told the board based on the budgets he was given that Playoffs would be a minimum for the season and for this reason he was given the boot.

quote Chairman David Bosomworth
We had a meeting with Neil Aspin this morning regarding his future at the club. We told Neil that we would not be offering him a new contract at the club. It is a sad day for myself personally having to let Neil go after he guided us to 2 promotions in 3 seasons but on the budget we provided this season he told us we would make the Playoffs at least. That didn't happen so we feel that a new man should be appointed to shake the club up and bring in fresh ideas to help us move forward.

We want to thank Neil for everything he has done and wish him well in the future. An announcement will be made shortly regarding the man who will be taking over the club

THE FUTURE 2013/2014

NATE BADGER has taken the managers job at Blue Square North side FC HALIFAX TOWN. All we know about Nate is that he is originally from the BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS and is 25 YEARS OLD. This will be his first managerial job in football and this news hasn't gone down well with the fans of The Shaymen.

quote
Who the hell is this clown? I've never heard of him or the British Virgin Islands. British and Virgin in the same sentence? I don't think so lad. Get a proper manager in!
quote
David Bosomworth you really have lost the plot. Call yourself a chairman
quote
Nate Badger?? Who r ya Who r ya. Giving a contract to a bloke with only Sunday League Experience? Idiot

NATE BADGER INTERVIEW

quote
I know people will be wondering who I am and why I've been given the job over other more experienced managers. Firstly let me tell you I love football and I have ever since I moved to England aged 3. The passion, the drama and the desire to win at all costs. I've signed a 1 year deal at the club and been told that Playoffs is a minimum for the season. I'm not stupid, I know that if we don't make the Playoffs I'll be out of a job this time next season.

I'm here to freshen things up. I won't say too much as other managers from the league will likely read this but I have my own plans, styles, ideas and most of all the will to take FC Halifax Town as far as I can. I like to set up with a plan to use 3 formations over the season and to mix it up each game and during each game. You might see us play long ball football to get the ball forward quickly or we might play from the back and keep possession. There are many ways to score goals and win football matches and I'll be exploring them all.

I say to the fans who don't want me at the club please give me a chance. I'm a fan of FC Halifax Town now so we are all on the same team. We are all in this together and I promise to try my best for the club.

Having joined the club just before pre season I have been told that only 4 players have a contract for the 2013/2014 season and that all other players will be leaving. Players like Garreth Seddon who scored 17 goals last season will be a big miss but I already have my transfer and loan targets so it'll be a busy summer for all.

So yeah hello. I'm Nate Badger and as you will have seen from my interview last month the FC Halifax Town fans really weren't happy about me being appointed manager. I was probably the cheap option at the end of the day but I'll happily manage at level 6 football for £500 a week. Personally, I think the board are expecting me to fail so seems I have 1 season to prove the board, the press and mostly the fans wrong.

-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-

It's been a tough month to be honest. Like I said before we only had 4 contracted players for the season when I joined but at least I can say it's my squad whatever happens during the season. So my first task as you'd imagine was to get a squad together that could compete in the Blue Square North Division

TRANSFERS IN

Goalkeepers

Aaron Myles ~ Free having been released by Nottingham Forest. Looks a great prospect but will most likely be my Number 2 goalkeeper. 2 year deal
Joe Day ~ Season Long Loan from Peterborough with 0% fee or wages. Could have signed for a League 2 team but decided to join us. Joe will be my Number 1 for the season

Defenders

Carl Piergianni ~ Free from Corby. A total steal at just £275 p/w who can play LB or CB. 2 year deal
Jason Crowe ~ Free from Corby . Will be one of the older members of the squad at 35. What Jason lacks in pace he makes up for in experience. 2 year deal
Lee Toland ~ Free having been released by Newcastle United. Lee has decent physical attributes but will need to work on his technical attributes to be a regular. 2 year deal
Luke Blakely ~ Free from Loughborough Dynamo. May be a little expensive at £400 p/w but has international experience and is a solid defender. 2 year deal
Richard Bryan ~ Free from Chasetown. A player for the future for sure. A really good prospect. 1 year deal
Rob Kozluk ~ Free from Ilkeston. Will also be a Coach at the club. Brings experience and will be I'm sure a solid performer. Will most likely be a rotation/squad player. 1 year deal
Thomas Briggs ~ Free having been released by Huddersfield Town. Will learn a lot from Jason and Rob. May have to send him out on loan later in the season for game time.

Midfielders

Ashan Holgate ~ Free from Oxford City. Another steal at just £250 p/w. 1 year deal
Danny Meadows ~ Season Long Loan from Alfreton with 0% fee or wages. Will mostly be used as a squad player unless performances impress. 1 year deal
Danny Waldren ~ Free from Stockport. Probably one of the most gifted players at the club. But does he want it enough? 1 year deal
Darren Murphy ~ Free having been released by Macclesfield Town. Another cracking player for £400 p/w. Hoping he can drive the team on from the middle of the park. 2 year deal
Jay Carroll ~ Season Long Loan from Connah's Quay with 0% fee or wages. Really surprised they let him go out of loan. Expected to be a League 1 player in the future.
Lewis Chalmers ~ Free from Droylsden. My secret weapon. The loan throw specialist Lewis Chalmer. Need I say more. 2 year deal

Strikers

Blair Sturrock ~ Free from Bishop's Stortford. One of the Top Earners at the club but I'm sure he will be worth it having played at a higher level. 1 year deal
Connor Jennings ~ Season Long Loan from Scunthorpe with 0% fee or wages. Can play as a Striker or Winger so will be a useful addition to the squad.
Phil Airey ~ Free from Blyth. Scored lots of goals for Blyth last season. Recommended by chief scout Phil Straker. 1 year deal

-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-

So in my eyes the above squad would be able to challenge in the Blue Square North Division. I may add a few players later in the season if I see fit but not sure yet. Be best to see how the season is going I'm sure you'd agree. When joining I also had the problem of no staff to help me out so I had to get some in. Well I say no staff, I had Victor Hunter and Phil Straker the scout with judging ability 1 and judging potential 2. Interesting!

STAFF IN

-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-

I have decided to use 3 main tactics through the season. I have been getting the players used to these tactics through pre season training and during matches. The formations in question are 4-3-3, 4-5-1 and 4-4-2

3 TACTICS FOR THE SEASON

Pitch Side Shouts For Each Tactic

Tactic 1 ( Balanced & Attacking ) - Exploit The Flanks, Work Ball Into Box, Hassle Opponents
Tactic 2 ( Balanced & Control ) - Retain Possession, Play From Defence, Play Through Opponents
Tactic 3 ( Balance & Standard ) - Get Ball Forward, Exploit The Flanks

-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-

SECRET WEAPON

My secret weapon for the season isn't exactly a secret weapon as it's common knowledge but that isn't the point. Lewis Chalmers brilliant long throws + pitch size minimum ( 70m long x 55m wide off memory ) + defenders with great heading ability = GOALS and therefore Points in the bag. Hopefully!

-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-

PRE SEASON FRIENDLIES

            Friday 12th July 2013 ~ Colchester ( H ) ~ Att 388 ~ 0-2 Defeat
            Wednesday 17th July 2013 ~ Bristol City ( H ) ~ Att 2,121 ~ 1-5 Defeat ~ Scorers ( Blair Sturrock )
            Wednesday 24th July 2013 ~ Everton Res ( H ) ~ Att 187 ~ 3-0 Win ~ Scorers ( Connor Jennings 2, Carl Piergianni )
            Sunday 28th July 2013 ~ Llangollen ( A ) ~ Att 90 ~ 4-1 Win ~ Scorers ( Paul Johnson, Sean Williams, Luke Blakely, Connor Jennings )
            Friday 2nd August 2013 ~ Bootle ( H ) ~ Att 339 ~ 4-0 Win ~ Scorers ( Blair Sturrock 2, Danny Gardner, Richard Bryan )

-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-

So there you have it. That's Pre Season over and done with. I've got my players, staff, tactics and secret weapon which isn't a secret weapon sorted. Now time to make the Playoffs and make all this hard work worth while. Time to put Nate Badger and FC Halifax Town on the map! Speak to you at the end of August. Thank you for reading.

AUGUST 3rd 2013 ~ AUGUST 31st 2013

-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-

AFC Telford 4 - 1 FC Halfax Town - Blue Square North

A bad mistake by Paul Johnson during injury time in the first half saw us head into the break a goal down. It was no more than Telford deserved though having dominated the first half. The 4-4-2 formation I had set up didn't seem to be working but I thought keep it tight and close until the last 20 minutes then we can have a go at them.

Blair Sturrock was taken out in the penalty area early in the second half and the penalty was dispatched by Lewis Chalmers to level it up. AFC Telford then went on the rampage scoring 3 goals in 11 minutes. I made a triple sub and changed the formation slightly but there was nothing we could do to get back into the match.

A heavy defeat left us bottom of the table. Not the start I had planned

-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-

FC Halifax Town 4 - 2 Boston United - Blue Square North

With the 4-4-2 formation failing last time many would think a change would be in order. But, I decided to stay with it and soldier on with that formation. It didn't look great as we were behind 1-2 at the break. Having changed the formation too late against AFC Telford I decided to do it at half time in this match. We switched to a more attacking 4-3-3 formation.

Phil Airey added to his first half goal early in the second half and super sub Jay Carroll came off the bench to score 2 screamers to give the club their first victory of the season.

Phil Airey deservedly picked up the Man of the Match award with his 8.8 performance

-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-

Worcester 1 - 1 FC Halifax Town - Blue Square North

Having had some success in the second half against Boston United I decided to start the game with the same 4-3-3. This may have been risky being as though we were playing away from home and having lost badly against AFC Telford on the opening day.

I couldn't believe that we only got a point out of this match. It could have been even worse if Blair Sturrock hadn't of broken the offside trap 2 minutes after Worcester had opened the scoring. May be I over committed in the last 10 minutes as I thought we deserved to get a goal and the win. So I shall take the blame for the Worcester goal but glad Blair managed to get us the draw.

Overall happy with a point but could have been so much better.

-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-

Hinckley 1 - 0 FC Halifax Town - Blue Square North

Ok so we got a draw at Worcester last time out but thinking about it we were far to open and the game was far to end to end for my liking. I decided to go with a 4-5-1 formation and aim to keep the ball and play from the back. This was the first time the lads had used this formation in a competitive game but I was confident.

We played well. Both teams had chances but to get beaten by a penalty in the 90th minute was hard.

It will take a lot to lift the lads for our final game of the month but hoping the big players in the changing rooms, myself and my staff can do that.

-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-

FC Halifax Town 0 - 2 Solihull Moors - Blue Square North

We stuck with the same 4-5-1 formation that had worked ok last time out against Hinckley. Sadly the Solihull Moors players just wanted it more than us and got a deserved victory.

I think it was the goal just before the half time whistle that killed us off. It will take a lot of work by everybody at the club if we are to live up to the hype I have built about making the Playoffs.

I'm really quite down at the minute and I will be having a meeting with the staff to try and figure out what we can do going forward.

-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-

Not really the start I had planned in my head. From a possible 15 points available in August we managed to pick up 4. The team are still trying to gel together and learn the formations. I have a style of football in mind I want them to play and at the minute it's just not happening. We will get there though and the performances and results will improve.

Only 4 points in August hasn't exactly made the fans changed their minds about me but I'm contracted for a year so please judge me over that time and not just after a poor month. There are 6 matches scheduled for September so a lot of points to play for. Thank you for reading.

-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-

SEPTEMBER 1st 2013 ~ SEPTEMBER 30th 2013

-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-

FC Halifax Town 1 - 0 Vauxhall Motors - Blue Square North

Just a single goal from Blair Sturrock was enough to see off Vauxhall Motors at The Shay. I had spoken to my staff and players about what we could do to get back on track and up towards the Playoffs. We decided to go back to basics and going back to our original 4-4-2 formation we had used earlier in the season.

It paid off in the end and even though Connor Jennings was sent off late on for getting two yellow we were always in control and won the match. It seemed to me that Vauxhall Motors came for a 0-0 and once we scored they had no plan B. Thankfully.

First game of the month and first 3 points!

-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-

Workington 1 - 3 FC Halifax Town - Blue Square North

No point changing anything if it works right? I changed nothing from the victory against Vauxhall Motors and we dominated against a Workington side who were expected to do well this season.

The weather conditions up North as per usual were Wet and Windy which didn't make playing easy but my boys certainly never looked like getting beaten. A standard Blair Sturrock one on one goal, a penalty by long throw specialist Lewis Chalmers and a headed goal by Paul Airey saw off Workington.

Not even a silly own goal by Luke Blakely could dampen the mood in the away dressing room and certainly created some banter on the coach home.

-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-

FC Halifax Town 4 - 1 Southport - Blue Square North

I was really excited before this match as we were playing recently relegated Southport at home. I discussed with my staff that we should go on the attack and show what we were all about. It was agreed and that's exactly what we did.

An early tap in by Connor Jennings in the 2nd minute started us off well and put us on the front foot. Luke Blakely converted 2 long throws by Lewis Chalmers which I was totally delighted about having made the pitch small to help with set piece situations.

3-1 up in the 90th minute and Southport have a corner. We leave 2 players up the field and they leave 1 defender. Darren Murphy and Phil Airey make their 1 defender look like a prat and score a simple goal to make it 4-1. Delighted with this performance and result.

-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-

Colwyn Bay 0 - 2 FC Halifax Town - Blue Square North

There is a risk after a fantastic win against an opposition you were not expected to beat that the next performance may be below par. Thankfully that didn't happen.

It was a tight match until half time but a decent team talk by myself seemed to spur the players on to get the 3 points. Connor Jennings seized on a mistake by a Colwyn Bay centre back to make it 1 nil and then Phil Airey made it safe with 8 minutes to go.

Connor Jennings with a goal and an assist was awarded the Man of the Match award and rightly so. Our 4th win on the bounce this month. Loving life at the moment with The Shaymen

-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-

FC Halifax Town 3 - 2 Chester - Blue Square North

An Epic match at The Shay and yes you are reading that correctly. Joe Day opened the scoring for us after a mistake by the opposition goalkeeper.

Joe Day came just outside his area to take a free kick. The ball got caught in the wind which resulted in the opposition goalkeeper coming out and then getting lobbed. Was a fantastic moment which was nearly matched by Rob Kozluk who scored a similar goal from inside our half. This one went straight in though no bouncing involved.

I'd imagine the Chester goalkeeper walked home!

Our 5th straight win in the league. Would love to make it 6 in our final league game of the month.

-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-

Stalybridge Celtic 1 - 0 FC Halifax Town - Blue Square North

I think the 5 wins in a row got to the players and possibly to me also. We went into the game to attack from the off and get in their faces.

Sadly they had the same idea but they executed it better than us. We were unlucky and hit the bar and post but just wasn't to be in the end.

5 wins and 1 defeat during September is a hell of a lot better and gives us lots to work on for the remaining matches in the season

-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-

A great month with great wins against Southport and Chester at home and also away victories at Workington and Colwyn Bay. The real highlight for me was the Joe Day and Rob Kozluk goals against Chester. To see one goal like that is very rare but 2 in 1 match was unbelievable. Lots to work on before the October matches but I now feel more confident about being up the top of the league at the end of the season.

-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-

Workington 1 - 0 FC Halifax Town - FA Cup 2nd Quali Round

Having beaten Workington away from home in the league last month I was quietly confident going into this 2nd round FA Cup qualification match. I was going to change the team a lot but in the end decided to only put a few squad players in but keep the core of the side the same as usual.

My boys just didn't get going and by the time I tried to change things later on it was just too late.

Workington played well but my first ever match in the FA Cup really didn't go to plan. I just hope our last 2 games being defeats doesn't harm team morale too much for the remainder of the month.

Kettering 1 - 4 FC Halifax Town - Blue Square North

After the league and cup defeats back to back we went to bottom of the table Kettering who have been really struggling for points. They also recently sacked their manager. I really wasn't sure how this game would pan out.

Thankfully my lads were back on form and back in the goals. Blair Sturrock scored in the first 40 seconds of the match and is making a good habit of these early vital goals. That settled the nerves a little and was followed up by goals from Connor Jennings, Lewis Chalmers and 9.0 rated Man of the Match Phil Airey.

The only sour note of the day was Blair going off with an injury during the half time break. It's likely he will be unavailable for around a month which is a big loss.

FC Halifax Town 1 - 1 Gainsborough Trinity - Blue Square North

Two Playoff hopefuls faced each other at The Shay and the match didn't disappoint from a neutral point of view. I was standing in the technical area pulling my hair out at times especially at the ref who I though had a dreadful game.

We took the lead through a rare Danny Gardner drive from just outside of the box. Danny later went off with an injury which will put him out for a number of weeks. Long throw specialist Lewis Chalmers will also be out of action but only for a few days.

We couldn't hold on to our lead and the goal from Gainsborough came with just over 20 minutes left.

A win here would have been vital but we couldn't hold on plus these injuries that seem to be happening now. Very annoying indeed but a win in our last match of the month against Marine would cheer me up

FC Halifax Town 3 - 0 Marine - Blue Square North

My midfielders put on a fine display versus Marine. Three of them getting on the score sheet but yet again another injury. This time Man of the Match Darren Murphy had to go off late on. Not sure how bad it is and he will have to have a scan on Monday.

Marine who had just been promoted to the division looked a bit lost and unable to deal with the threats all over the pitch.

Delighted with the performance and result which have cheered me up after the draw last week vs Gainsborough

7 points from a possible 9 in the league is a very good return. I can't help feel however that it should and could have been 9 from 9. Sad to go out so early in the FA Cup but that's done now. We need to concentrate on the league and FA Trophy which begins next month. I think I will alter the training slightly and give the lads a few days off here and there which I'm hoping will help, with the risk of injury being reduced. Yet again thanks for reading and a big thanks to the FC Halifax Town fans who seem to be coming round to the idea of me as their manager. Up The Shaymen!

NOVEMBER 1st 2013 ~ NOVEMBER 30th 2013

Tamworth 1 - 0 FC Halifax Town - Blue Square North

November was to be a tough month with a minimum of 6 games to be played. The biggest tests would be the first 2 matches of November in my opinion. It didn't start very well on a wet day in Staffordshire.

A single goal in the first half was enough to win the game for Tamworth. It was the least they deserved having dominating the match. We were unable to get a hold of the game until they had a player sent off late on but it was then too late.

I overheard a Tamworth player after the game say " I expected more from Halifax "

My immediate thought was. So did I mate.

Guiseley 0 - 1 FC Halifax Town - Blue Square North

From one major test to another against high flying Guiseley. We a lot better in this game going back to our solid 4-5-1 formation. It was just a single goal from on loan star Connor Jennings that sealed the 3 vital points for us.

We were first to every second ball, hungry for a tackle but very disciplined and I was delighted with the performance.

I was especially delighted with defender Paul Johnson who got his second Man of the Match award in a row in this game. The guy is on fire and I'm so glad that previous manager Neil Aspin signed him up before he left the club.

One win and one defeat in the league so far. We move on to the FA Trophy now!

FC Halifax Town 2 - 1 Kidsgrove - FA Trophy 3rd Quali Round

We had a decent home draw in the FA Trophy 3rd Quali Round against Kidsgrove. Believe me that I wasn't taking this game lightly or for granted but I did bring in a few squad players to get some game time.

Aaron Myles, Rob Kozluk, Ashan Holgate, Sean Williams, Kieran Hunt and Mike Guiry were included to rest a few of the First Team players for the remaining league games in November.

It worked out well as we progressed to the 1st Round. I was pleased with all the lads that came into the starting 11 and especially pleased with Man of the Match Luke Blakely who has been fantastic so far this season.

I was surprised with the crowd of 787 as I expected it to be less for an FA Trophy game. Hopefully with improved performances and results the crowds will swell over 1,000.

FC Halifax Town 3 - 1 Histon - Blue Square North

The First Team regulars were back in the side against Histon and it seemed to work as we ran out victorious

Luke Blakely carried on his fantastic performances and 2 more goals certainly helped. He yet again converted 2 long throws by Lewis Chalmers to give us a healthy advantage in this match.

I was also delighted for youngster Mike Guiry who scored his first league goal for the club after coming on as a substitute.

Back to back league wins now won't do us any harm and the attendance creeps up towards the 1k mark.

-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-

                          FC Halifax Town 2 - 1 Barrow - FA Trophy 1st Round

Blue Square Premier side Barrow came to town in the FA Trophy 1st Round and provided us with our biggest test of the season. We fell behind to an Adam Bayes goal just before half time as a well oiled and well drilled Barrow side took control at The Shay.

I told my boys at half time to go out and enjoy the match and remember this when you are fighting to gain promotion to play Barrow in the league next season. It seemed to work as we scored just before the hour mark as Carl Piergianni scored from close range after a corner scramble.

When Darren Murphy smashed in the winner from 25 yards with 3 minutes left I'll be honest I celebrated a little bit over the top. Not Mourinho style on my knees and running around the pitch but it was a tad over the top. I apologised to the Barrow manager after the match of course. I think it was the realisation that the team I'd built in my first season could well compete at a higher level.

We just need that vital promotion first. Easier said than done.

-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-

Bury Town 0 - 1 FC Halifax Town - Blue Square North

Another league game and another FC Halifax Town defender getting a Man of the Match award. After such a good performance against Barrow it took us a long time to get going against Bury Town and it was a defensive mistake that lead to the only goal of the match.

Bury Town were playing very nervously and couldn't keep the ball. It seems that even though we had an off day we ran into a side who were having an even worse day than us.

Wasn't a footballing masterclass from either side but we got the 3 points and that's all that matters at the end of the day.

-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-'-

FC Halifax Town 3 - 1 FC United of Manchester - Blue Square North

Our final game of the month was at home to FC United of Manchester. Their side came with a big reputation but they didn't live up to that thankfully.

We scored goals at vital points in the match. Being early on, just before half time and soon after they had scored their goal. Blair Sturrock scored the best goal of the match, picking up the ball just inside our half and gliding passed 2 defenders and curling the ball into the far corner of the net. I kept my celebrations to a minimum after the Barrow game but inside I was ecstatic with the performance.

A large away following from FC United of Manchester took the gate to 1,078 which is a really good gate for a level 6 club.

12 points from a possible 15 available in the league is a great return. I was awarded the November Manager of the Month award also which is fantastic. That trophy will sit with great pride in my living room. The lads have made it through to the 2nd round of the FA Trophy where they will face non league Brigg Town at home which is a very winnable game. We are sitting 2nd in the league and above the target set at the start of the season. I look forward to December and I hope you do also. Thanks for reading. UTS!
