With the new tagging system being compulsory it will make finding duplicate team discussions easier as instead of going through the whole forum and picking them out we can just filter them out.

I know when i was modding last year we weren't asking for like a essay or a guide when it came to the first posts of team discussions just a basic background and some tips. The ones that i feel should be discouraged completely are ones that just say 'I've started as Man City discuss here'. I think as Crowy said though that having to ask the mods to open a team discussion would make a some people not want to bother and take away discussion avenues.

Seriously though, the CM03 to FM2005/2006 were the best forums, no bullshit put on there, nice and organized and a good community. It's the reason why i've barely posted since those really, it's not as if I don't visit or anything, just it hasn't sucked me in at all. Definitely needs an improvement of quality IMO, I do find there are a lot of people who post up a question and rarely get a response though. Not necessarily in a new thread or anything.

Back in the old days you used to have quite a few from the Soccer forum in here, Wba4eva was a regular, Sweeney etc. Seems as they have been driven away.

I think the likes of Sweeney etc were probably were driven away from newer members who didn't erm post to the same qualities, I think the FM Forums are in a bit of a transitional period and it will take time for newer members to get up to the standard of members back in those days.

It's not an insult to current members at all, everyone's situation or interest is different, which is fine, but IMO the FM forums were better and a lot more 'interactive' back then. I don't think new members are hooked by it like it used to be.

I think there's plenty of newer members that are hooked and post frequently and well. There are some who post rubbish that is repetitive but I remember it being like that 6 years ago too.

I think the problem is activity. In the FM12 forum you see posts from the night before still the latest post in the next day's evening. Wasn't like that before, used to be like every ten minutes someone would post an update, I don't think it has anything to do with the community, it's just that it seems like less people care about posting. Even I've reached the stage where I've gone a few days without posting about my saves. D:

This is the best way to put I think.

Pretending the forum is perfect is a bad thing, notice the problems, try and fix it (which people are more than doing, with the discussion suggestions etc).

I myself have had Unviersity, so havent really had time to beat Crowy on FM and post about it, but now im finished with it i'll be doing more;

FM 1v1 league, 3 games a week sort of thing.
FM Neo club v Neo Club - pretty cool think that happened on an Everton forum, well worth the fun but would need at least 4 managers and a good squad of 20-25 players for each club.
FM Prediction League maybe.

Activity's not the problem imo. It's only natural that this far into the games course people get bored and don't post about it. I never really participated in the team discussions, well I did in the Liverpool one early on and that seemed good, and was quite active. I think PMing mods with opening posts may be too far, team discussions generate interest without a top quality opening post, but it's better to read and look at which is why I can understand people wanting them. My main annoyance last year was the amount of 'who should I manage' threads, only a few people used the proper thread.

That's mainly because hardly anyone looks at the thread index first. That is meant to be there for poeple to help find stuff. Shame that you can only have so many stickied threads.

Not sure about this but could we perhaps scrap the 30 page rule aswell... atleast for the discussions? Seems much easier aswell just to have one massive discussion thread instead of 26 threads on the go. I don't believe the previous LFC discussion thread was even closed... someone just went ahead and made a new one.

I like the idea of this. Our thread over in GT5 is awesome, much better than the one in the computer hardware forum eh? ;D
