Microsoft made the announcement today that the Kinect has officially dropped in price from $150 to $110 -- in the United States. The price drop is also confirmed for the North America, Latin America, and Asia Pacific regions, and will be available for Australia and New Zealand starting October 4. Unfortunately, Microsoft also made it clear that there were no plans to bring to price drop to the EMEA (European) or Japan regions.

Last year's Black Friday sales, at least in the US, saw prices from below $100 for the Kinect -- though that was often associated with various game and console bundles. What sort of sales we'll see this year could be very interesting. To be fair, the Kinect isn't seeing half the releases it did last year, though it's hard to argue that the newest Dance Central and Double Fine's Happy Action Theater 2 don't look great.

Be wary, naturally, as we could be just over a year away from the release of a new Xbox and who knows whether the Kinect will have compatibility with it -- or if it will prove obsolete due to the release of a Kinect 2 (rumors of which are already swirling). Still, if there's a Kinect game or some certain functionality you're excited about, Microsoft's price drop is just for you.
