Companies are leaking release dates so often these days that you'd think there's a competition going on. The latest comes from Xbox.com and concerns Battlefield 4, as the site briefly listed this morning an October release date for DICE's upcoming military shooter. October 29, to be exact.
Looking at the post now, you'll find an amended version that's notably free of any hypothetical dates. However, screenshots of the previous post are floating around:
We're going to assume this isn't an April Fool's thing, so much as an accident by whoever updates the Xbox blog. Why? It'd make a boring joke, but also note the date on the blog entry: a little early for the national joke day.
The edited blog post isn't very exciting, as it simply removes the date. Either way, here's what it now says:
Only in Battlefield can players go through a building instead of around it, eject from a jet and take out the enemy mid-free fall, or flip a tank. DICE, a studio of Electronic Arts, announced that Battlefield 4 is coming to the Xbox 360.
If true, a late-October release wouldn't be at all surprising, and it would make Battlefield 4 just one of several current-gen AAA titles squeezing by the anticipated next-gen holiday rush. Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, for instance, is doing exactly this.
Officially unveiled March 27 (or the night before, for some of us), Battlefield 4 doesn't actually have an official release date attached to it yet. DICE and EA did offer up a lengthy 17-minute reveal video, however, that's worth a watch.
