It wouldn't be Nintendo without a constant supply of Mario games, so this year's E3 has brought yet another. Named New Super Mario Bros. U, it's not to be confused with New Super Mario Bros. 2. The former, of course, is for Wii U, while the latter is for 3DS. You may recognize it, as it was previously shown off as New Super Mario Bros. Mii.
NSMB U features Mario, Luigi, Toad, and your Mii, and the ability to transform into a flying squirrel or float on by on Tiny Balloon Yoshi. The Wii U Gamepad lets a second player create platforms out of nothing Trine-style to help you along. You can also switch to the small screen as you please and play even if others want to watch TV.
As you can see from the trailer, it's the same classic gameplay you know and love, but with art design that seems to mash together the old stuff with what you're used to from the Galaxy games. It's hard not to feel like some of the charm is lost in combining them, but good gameplay trumps all.
New Super Mario U should be launching alongside Nintendo's new platform this holiday season.
