Digital Extremes' Star Trek: The Video Game is definitely something many of us are looking forward to. Now, the upcoming Star Trek game has been dated for April 23, preceding the movie that's due out in May. Not too surprising, given movie inspired games tend to arrive before their cinema counterparts.
Star Trek: The Video Game promises to delve a little further into the expanded universe, content that the films and TV shows never really touched on. Sounds like that could turn out to be either really amazing or not amazing. We're hoping for the latter.
Players will step in as Kirk and Spock as they battle Gorn, from the 1967 Star Trek. The folks at Digital Extremes are really hoping they've got the authenticity thing down. Regardless, we're fans of their work in general, but just in case, the devs have worked closely with the 2009 Star Trek team.
Brian Miller, senior VP of Paramount Pictures, is working on the game as executive producer. He comments:
“The Enterprise is not just a ship – she is one of the most important characters in all of Star Trek. Our goal from day one was to make sure that the Enterprise looks, feels and even sounds as true to life as anything players have ever seen. Hopefully, players will come away feeling as if they’re ready to be part of the crew themselves.”
