FootballManagerBoy I have no problem whatsoever with you using this thread to update your FIFA 12 Career.

Di Maria was injured during Madrid's 2-1 defeat to relegation-threatened Mallorca.

So I'm still top of the table after eleven games in the league but Barcelona are breathing down my neck. However I am conceding far too many goals. Of the sixteen games I have played in all competitions, I have only kept three clean sheets. I am enjoying this formation but I have to concede less goals in my matches.

I have won all of the matches in the league bar the games away to Barcelona and Mallorca. Barca were 3-1 up and I thought I was due a point when I scored in the 85th and 88th minute however Cesc Fabregas scored the winner with what was essentially the last kick of the game. Mallorca were sitting second-bottom when I played them and I was a bit complacent and they punished me for it. I was 2-0 down and I thought I had a route back into the game when Ronaldo hit the back of the net but it was not to be. Insult to injury was added when Di Maria fell to the ground with no-one around him and it was revealed that he had tore his calf muscle. In an unprecedented move, Marcelo has found himself starting on the wing in Di Maria's absence.

Cesc Fabregas and his Barcelona teammates had the last laugh in the El Clasico.

The Champions League is also going well. After four games I have nine points and will be guaranteed a place in the last 16 if I win my next game. My only slip-up was away to Helsingborgs in Sweden where the second-string team I fielded could not get the job done. I also went 2-0 down to Monchengladbach in Germany however a second-half revival ensured I won the match 4 goals to 2.

The last game that I played in this session was the first leg of the Copa Del Rey at home to Liga Adelante side Almeria. I played my strongest team however I still gave away three goals to the lowly outfit. The score is 5-3 on aggregate leading into the second leg which will be played in mid-December.

Even though Real Madrid won the treble last season, manager Alistair Brown has spent every penny of his £79.5million transfer budget by bringing in four players to improve the squad in an effort to push on and retain the titles this coming season.

David De Gea was brought in as Brown believes that Adan is not adequate cover for Casillas. This was proven as last season, Casillas played every single one of the sixty-one games in all competitions. The 22 year old goalkeeper has signed a four-year deal at Madrid and is on £50,000 per week.

Shaqiri was purchased primarily because of Madrid's lack of depth when it comes to wingers. Last season Madrid only had three recognizable wingers and because of Angel Di Maria's injury problems last season, more depth was needed in this position. The Swiss player has an identical contract to his new team-mate with £50,000 per week for four years.

German sensation Marco Reus was signed because of Brown's lack of confidence in Jose Callejon as sub centre-forward. Last term's Player of the Season Mesut Ozil cannot play every game and a world-class player is needed for when those times arrive. Reus put pen to paper on a three-year deal and will be paid £90,000 a week.

The final buy of the summer transfer window for Real Madrid was Chelsea's midfield magician Juan Mata. Brown was reported to have had a bid ready ever since Madrid faced the Blues in the quarter-finals of the Champions League last season after two majestic displays from the Spaniard against his team. Mata is the highest paid incomer for Madrid this window as he will receive £100,000 per week. Mata signed for three years.

As well as bringing new faces in, Brown has sent some players packing this window. Right-back Arbeloa was sold to Manchester United for a paltry figure after being deemed surplus to requirements by Brown. Unsurprisingly, Carvalho and Diarra's contracts were not renewed after neither made a single appearance for Madrid last season.

With the transfer business done with for another window, it was time for Real Madrid to kick off the new season:

INJURY: A terrible start to the season for Angel Di Maria as he breaks his toe in training and is ruled out for six weeks.



The season curtain-raiser as normal was the Supercopa Espana in which treble-winning Real Madrid took on city rivals Atletico Madrid who finished third place in the league last season. In the first leg at the Bernabeu, Real ran out 3-0 winners with Luka Modric, Mesut Ozil and Radamel Falcao beating Thibaut Courtois in Atletico's goal. Falcao continued his record of scoring in every game he plays against his old team. The second leg at the Calderon was a much closer affair. Real fielded a complete second-side with De Gea, Mata and Reus handed their debuts. Atletico opened the scoring in the first half and it stayed like that for much of the game. In the 88th minute Benzema latched onto a lofted through ball and he calmly slotted the ball past the keeper. It finished all even and Real Madrid were crowned winners of the Supercopa Espana after it finished 4-1 on aggregate.

I can easily beat the CPU on Ultimate in UT but I think career is much more difficult. Should I make the change to legendary?

I think you should move up. If you're beating teams like Chelsea without much difficulty as Heerenveen then you should step up to Legendary. I'm not sure why but Ultimate on UT is easier than Legendary on Career Mode so it may take some getting used to but just like with trying out any new level of difficulty, it will take a bit of time to get used to what you can and can't get away with against the improved CPU.

Season 2012/13 - Difficulty: Legendary - Part Three

September 2012

After the disappointing draw at home to Catania on the opening day of the season, Brown was looking to bounce back with a strong performance. The new manager's next opposition and his first away trip with the Giallorossi was a tough one - a visit to the San Siro to play Inter was next in line.

One change to the side was in goal as 25-year old Uruguayan Mauro Goicoechea was chosen to be the man to wear the gloves while first-choice Maarten Stekelenburg recovers from a broken ankle. Wilfried Bony also started after missing the first Serie A game of the season through injury. Straight-away you could tell that Brown was set out to win this game in magnificent fashion after still being frustrated at his team not being able to put away their chances in the first game of the season as Roma played very attacking football. It paid off as it took only six minutes for Erik Lamela to score the first Serie A goal for Roma under Brown after driving the ball past helpless Samir Handanovic. Fifteen minutes later, Bony was clumsily brought down in the box and the referee awarded a penalty to Roma. Francesco Totti stepped up and blasted the ball home. On the stroke of half-time, Bony dribbled the ball to the edge of the box, using his strength to hold off an Inter defender, and expertly drilled the ball into the top corner to make it an astonishing 3-0 to Roma at the San Siro at the break. 61 minutes in, Bony was fouled again in the penalty area and the referee had no choice but to point to the spot again. Totti coolly slotted the ball into the net for his double. Inter got on the scoresheet in the 80th minute after Nagatomo latched onto a rebound but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation goal.

09/09/12 - Serie A -Inter 1-4 Roma

MOTM: Wilfried Bony - On his return from a sprained knee, Bony played a part in all four goals. He played the ball through for Lamela's opener, was the player fouled for both of the converted penalties and scored one of his own. Brilliant game for the newcomer.

Next on the agenda for Roma was a home match against Bologna. Roma really didn't look in the game at all for the first half and it had consequences as Cristian Pasquato fired the visitors in front just after the half hour mark. Going down one-nil seemed to wake the home side up as they played more fluent football and it reaped rewards as the wide-man Erik Lamela scored a good solo effort past the goalkeeper. It was all square at half-time. The game was pretty flat for the majority of the second half as Bologna's defence dealt with any attack Roma mustered together reasonably well. The Giallorossi suffered more injury drama as experienced centre-back Nicolas Burdisso limped off the pitch. It was looking like a second home draw in succession for Roma but when the ball was played to Pablo Osvaldo on the edge of the box in the 90th minute, he made the most of his opportunity by turning and rifling the ball into the roof of the net to steal the win and send the Stadio Olimpico into raptures.

16/09/12 - Serie A - Roma 2-1 Bologna

MOTM: Francesco Totti - Was instrumental in the victory with an assist and had a 100% pass completion rate for the match.

INJURY: Centre-back Nicolas Burdisso will be out of contention for Roma for four weeks after suffering a hyper-extended knee in the 2-1 win against Bologna.

Brown's third home game of the season saw Atalanta travel to Rome. The starting XI only saw one change from the win against Bologna as Leandro Castan came in for the sidelined Nicolas Burdisso. It was a very quiet first half and both sides cancelled each other out but the deadlock was broken three minutes into the second half as Pjanic was brought down in the Atalanta box. The referee pointed to the spot and Totti converted from 12 yards to score his third goal of the season. Brown urged his men to pile on the pressure and score a second. Ten minutes later, the Atalanta goalkeeper mis-kicked a clearance and it fell to Totti. He played the ball through to Osvaldo who took a touch and curved the ball into the net leaving the goalkeeper to rue his mistake. This seemed to spur the away side on to get a goal back and they did just that on 62 minutes, as Goicoechea parried a shot straight into the path of Carmona who scored into an empty net. From that point on, Roma simply sat back and kept Atalanta out of the game, ensuring their second win in a row.

19/09/12 - Serie A - Roma 2-1 Atalanta

MOTM: Francesco Totti - The 36-year old talisman scored the first and assisted the second to claim the victory for his side. All of his shots were on target and for the second game in succession, he had a 100% pass completion rate.

The lack of rest between games seemed to take its toll in Roma's fifth match of the season - a trip to the island of Sardinia to face Cagliari. On the half hour mark, Andrea Cossu broke away from the Roma defence and slid the ball under Goicoechea to make it one-nil to the home team. On 42 minutes, Bony was bundled over in the penalty box and the referee deemed it to be a spot-kick. Francesco Totti blasted the ball into the top corner to claim his fourth goal from the penalty spot in as many games. Unfortunately for Roma, Bony hurt his arm after being tackled to gain the penalty and had to be substituted. The game died down from that point on until the 81st minute, when there was a mad scramble in the box and Cagliari's Cabrera scrappily poked the ball into the net. Despite Roma's best efforts, that was how the match finished and Brown had been handed his first loss as Roma boss.

23/09/12 - Serie A - Cagliari 2-1 Roma

MOTM: Federico Balzaretti - Despite the defeat, Roma's left-back stood out as he was a constant threat down the left-hand side of the pitch and shut out the opposition on that flank as well.

INJURY: Striker Wilfried Bony ruled out for eight days after bruising his elbow in Serie A defeat to Cagliari. This means Bony will sit out Roma's next two matches: Sampdoria at home and Juventus away.

Brown returned to Rome with the aim of bouncing back from the slip-up on Sardinia by turning his attention to the next team in line, Sampdoria. As promised, it was an entertaining game. Erik Lamela opened the scoring after 34 minutes by blasting the ball into the inside side netting. Because of Bony's injury, Pjanic was playing out wide with Michael Bradley alongside Daniele De Rossi in the middle of the park. Bradley doubled the Giallorossi's lead on 42 minutes. It was a corner routine straight off the training ground as Lamela whipped in a cross to the edge of the six-yard line off the front post which Bradley ran onto and expertly used his left-foot to volley the ball into the net. On the stroke of half-time, Sampdoria had a corner of their own. The ball was crossed in with some venom and much to the frustration of Brown, Pjanic headed the ball into the back of his own net to half his team's lead. 63 minutes in, Sampdoria's Poli struck the ball along the floor with his left foot and it trickled past Goicoechea and into the goal. On the touchline Brown was furious and voiced his exasperation at the goalkeeper for letting such a tame effort in. There was yet another twist as five minutes later the ball was hastily cleared to the edge of the Sampdoria box. Roma's front-man Osvaldo managed to get ahead of an opposition player, control the ball and volley it. It deflected off another Sampdoria player which took it even further away from the goalkeeper and into the corner. The match ended with Brown returning to winning ways in a five-goal thriller.

Brown's final game in September was arguably the biggest, as he took his Roma side to Turin to face reigning Serie A champions Juventus. It was a great start for the away side as Francesco Totti turned and placed the ball beyond the reach of Gianluigi Buffon with his left-foot to score his fifth goal of the season although only his first from open play. From that point on, Brown's tactics were clear - defend the lead and walk away from the Juventus Stadium with a 1-0 win. This worked for the majority of the game although substitute Fabio Quagliarella nicked a point for the home side after a very weak shot somehow evaded Goicoechea and rolled past the young goalkeeper.

30/09/12 - Serie A - Juventus 1-1 Roma

MOTM: Michael Bradley - The American midfielder showed his qualities by producing some great passes and equally great tackling to keep the strong Juventus attack fruitless for the most part. A good showing.

It was a good month for Brown's Roma side. 13 points out of a possible 18 is a good return considering there were some tough games in there. The 4-1 win away to Inter at the start of the month has to be the highlight though. In the next update we will see how Roma fare in their October fixtures.

Season 2012/13 - Difficulty: Legendary - Part Five

November 2012

After the disappointing defeat to Parma on Halloween, Roma were looking to bounce back in their Coppa Nazionale Third Round clash against mid-table Serie B side Bari. After 17 minutes, Bari whipped in a corner which was headed past Stekelenburg by defender Diego Polenta to put the underdogs in front. However that lead only lasted for three minutes as Francesco Totti struck a firm left-footed shot from inside the D past the Bari goalkeeper to level the score. On 38 minutes, the ball fell to Bony who dribbled with the ball into the box and put a left-footed strike high into the corner to ensure his side went into half-time with the one goal advantage. Mid-way through the second half, there was some intricate play between Pjanic, De Rossi and Osvaldo which eventually left the striker with a simple chance to score which he duly took by sliding the ball past the goalkeeper. Bari responded immediately though as only two minutes later, a one-two between Iunco and Romizi saw the former hit a great shot past Stekelenburg to go back to within reach of the Serie A side. Roma's two-goal cushion was restored after 79 minutes when Totti latched onto the goalkeeper's mistake to score his second on the night and his eighth in all competitions this season. That was the final goal of the match and so Roma progressed to the Round of 16 of the Coppa Nazionale after seeing off another Serie B side.

In the draw for the next round, it was revealed Roma would play Fiorentina at the Stadio Artemio Franchi. That match will be played on the 8th January.

07/11/12 - Coppa Nazionale Third Round - Roma 4-2 Bari

MOTM: Francesco Totti - The 36-year old scored two goals and completed the most passes of my attacking players to help secure Roma's place in the next round.

Brown looked to build on that last win in his next Serie A match which was against mid-table Torino at home. Francesco Totti swung in a corner on 14 minutes which was nodded in by Roma's number 14, Wilfried Bony. After 38 minutes, Torino's captain Rolando Bianchi poked in a rebounded shot which made the scoreline 1-1. Totti got himself on the scoresheet right on half-time as he struck a shot beyond Jean-Francois Gillet. Roma found it easy from that point on. After 57 minutes, Totti was involved again as he passed the ball to Osvaldo in the box who turned and let loose a ferocious effort which went in off the underside of the crossbar. On the hour mark, Bony ran down the left-hand side and slid a pass between two Torino defenders to the incoming Osvaldo who took a touch and then blasted home his second of the night. In the 76th minute Roma were awarded their fifth penalty of the season after Osvaldo had his shirt pulled in the box. The man who scored the previous four spot kicks - Totti - had already been substituted so Osvaldo stepped up and tucked it away to complete a second-half hat-trick. That goal was the Argentinian's tenth of the league campaign and his twelfth in all competitions. 5-1 was the final score and as well as three points on the board, Brown had led his team to their biggest win of the season thus far.

18/11/12 - Serie A - Roma 5-1 Torino

MOTM: Pablo Osvaldo - Although Totti had a great game with a goal and two assists, the award has to go to Osvaldo. He scored Roma's first hat-trick of the season with the time between his first and third goal only 19 minutes.

Three days after that brilliant win against Torino, Roma faced 10th-placed Palermo at the Stadio Olimpico. Things started off badly for Roma as some intricate play by the Palermo forwards fooled the defence and 19-year old Paulo Dybala was left with a tap in from six yards to put the visitors one-nil up. On 34 minutes, Bony ran with the ball into the box and shifted his body as if to shoot with his left. He then cut the ball back, struck it with his right and it went past the goalkeeper and in off the post to level the score. Palermo's goalkeeper Sorrentino pulled off some excellent saves throughout the match to keep out Totti, Osvaldo and Marquinhos. Just after the hour mark, Bony hit the outside of the post and was unlucky not to put Roma ahead. With ten minutes to go, the Ivorian showed his great close control and dribbling ability to get past a defender and rifle the ball into the roof of the net to give the Giallorossi a 2-1 lead. Brown wanted to secure the points so changed the formation of his team to a 5-4-1. Despite these overwhelmingly defensive tactics, Federico Balzaretti found himself in the opposition half and threaded the ball through to Bony who used his strength to hold off a defender, turn and slot the ball into the net for his first Roma hat-trick.

That win saw Roma go third in the table, however the top three are only separated by goal difference. Second-placed Napoli have played an additional game too so things are looking good for the team from the capital.

21/11/12 - Serie A - Roma 3-1 Palermo

MOTM: Wilfried Bony - After a slow start, the striker seems to have settled to life in Rome as six of his seven goals have come in the last six games. He played brilliantly against Palermo and got a well-deserved hat-trick.

Brown's final match of the month was a league match away to rock-bottom Pescara. Roma got off to a flying start as Erik Lamela scored his sixth Serie A goal of the season by cutting in on his left-foot and blasting the ball into the top corner. On 28 minutes, a tame shot was parried by Stekelenburg straight back into the danger area and Abbruscato managed to get in front of Burdisso and score a diving header into an open goal to level it up. On the hour mark, Miralem Pjanic scored his first league goal of the season to put Roma back in front and it was a stunner. Totti played the ball into him, he turned and shot from 30 yards out and the ball floated into the top right-hand corner of the net. However as the saying goes, every rose has its thorn, and Abbruscato was proving to be that thorn in the side of Roma as only two minutes after that wonderful Pjanic strike, Abbruscato outjumped Burdisso at the other end of the pitch and nicked a header at the front post. Despite Roma's best efforts. they couldn't find a winner and it ended all square. It was disappointment for Roma as they failed to secure three points against the side bottom of the table.

The last game of the month seems to be the achilles heel of this Roma side as they have dropped points in all four of those matches so far this season.

25/11/12 - Serie A - Pescara 2-2 Roma

MOTM: Elvis Abbruscato - The wily 32-year old was the bane of Roma in that match and scored two vital goals to ensure his side got their share of the spoils.

This should probably go in the Career Mode Discussion Thread but that thread is dying out. . It;s just dawned on me I need a new keeper to replace Courtois who will return to Chelsea (because he is on loan) at the end of the season, rated 86. I was thinking of buying Courtois but I'd have to fork out £20,000,000 or so. Any suggestions for a new goalkeeper with at least an 80 rating and quite young would be appreciated
