![]() FOUR FROM FOUR FOR FEBRUARY - FEBRUARY UPDATE ![]() Javier Hernandez: The Mexican striker tucked home the crucial opener against Liverpool, his first of two this month Manchester United only had a handful, four to be exact, of fixtures in February but a North-West derby followed by three consecutive away games (including a trip to Portugal in the Champions League) and some very surprising off-field developments, not to mention Danilo's big break, the debut of Gylfi Sigurdsson and a tactical change ensured this would be an eventful month for Manchester United. Spoiler:Line-up vs. Liverpool ![]() They started of the month with what looked to be a cracking North-West Derby. Both United and their big rivals Liverpool were missing superstar strikers van Persie and Suarez respectively so Sergio Aguero is looking to break a four-game scoring duck alongside in-form Javier Hernandez, while Andy Carroll is the focal point of Liverpool's 4-3-3. United were also missing Rafael through a one-match suspension so Danilo started for his first Barclays Premier League appearance. Speaking of first appearances midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson starts for his Manchester United debut, sitting alongside captain Shinji Kagawa in central midfield. The game started off quickly and Old Trafford attenders hadn't even sat down when Hernandez raced around the narrow midfield three, through Martin Kelly and Sebastian Coates and cooly dispatched the ball into the far corner from the left side leaving Pepe Reina with absolutely no chance. Stretford End ignited and the noise was almost deafening as the Mexican wheeled away from goal. United continued to dominate and soon after Neymar's dancing feet layed on Gylfi Sigurdsson who slammed it with amazing power and swerve, only for it to rebound off the post before Reina even had a chance to move. United enjoyed a plethora of chances in the first half and an ambitious shot from over thirty yards by Gylfi Sigurdsson forced one of the best saves Pepe Reina will ever make, followed by Chris Smalling coming close from Sergio Aguero's corner. The Spaniard stopper was then at his best again to deny Aguero the goal he has craved for four matches. He produced several other saves in the first period and was the only reason it was only 1-0 at the break, with the home side dominant. Reina's majestic form carried into the second half but he couldn't stop the magical Neymar putting the game out of reach just ten minutes after the break. The Brazilian used all of his dazzling dribbling and silky skills to create space in the middle of the park before lofting the ball over to the left flank for Javier Hernandez to cross in first time. The 22-year-old's amazing movement meant he left his man for dead and cooly nodded the drifting, head-height cross into the back of the net. Reina was scrambling to come back across his net and cover but Neymar headed back where both the cross and Reina came from. United's dominance continued, with Reina producing fine saves from Sigurdsson (who had a great debut game), Evans and Aguero before the end of the game but it mattered not as United left with the three points - Manchester United 2 - 0 Liverpool, a great result for United before the international break and especially pleasing for Kaiser is that all eleven players played brilliantly. Spoiler:Line-up vs. West Ham ![]() After an international break in the Barclays PL, the league leaders' next challenge and last league game of the month was a visit to the Boleyn Ground as it is officially titled - better known as Upton Park. There was dramatic events during the break as Manuel Neuer done a U-turn and decided he wanted to play at Manchester United for the foreseeable future, a boost for United. West Ham are a hard to beat team having a solid season so Kaiser knew an away trip to there would be a hard game. Rafael's suspension was over but Danilo kept his place after his good game against Liverpool as does Thibaut Courtois in an unchanged United XI, with only Robin van Persie unavailable for selection. The visitors started the game in control but instead of playing a patient game played fast-paced attacks, which provided a much better game for everyone. Both teams had attacks but United were on top for most of the early stages and it quickly told. Javier Hernandez played a dream ball that set deadline day signing Gylfi Sigurdsson through on goal with thirty yards to the goalie but instead of getting as close to the keeper, as most players would, the Icelandic midfielder nudged the ball ahead of himself before getting it out of his feet and rocketing it perfectly into the top corner from twenty-five or so yards in spectacular fashion, bagging his first goal in United colours and overtaking Sergio Aguero in the scoring charts. Sigurdsson controlled the pace of the game as United were on top and forced a few spectacular saves out of West Ham United's keeper Henderson but at the break it was still 1-0 and the Hammers were still in with a shout. However, in the second half the gulf in class really showed. United took the game to West Ham and within a few minutes that man Gylfi Sigurdsson was planting the ball into the bag of the net with West Ham powerless to stop his marauding runs towards the area and the 25-year-old's thirteenth Barclays PL goal was indeed very unlucky for the home side. The goal was a special one for him as he became United's highest scoring active league player if you include his goals at Spurs, tying Hernandez's thirteen. Not to be outdone by his midfield partner, a failed clearance fell to Shinji Kagawa who despite standing with his back to goal scored an absolute scorcher by firing the ball into the top corner on the turn. The Red Devils put West Ham to the sword when Sigurdsson found Aguero near the area and the Argentinian silenced his critics and at long last found the back of the net after drawing blanks in his five previous games. It was a very good goal aswell, the striker skipping past defenders at will and emphatically ramming the ball into the back of the net. To cap off an emphatic win Hernandez raced down the field and slotted home from a tight angle around Henderson, making it Manchester United 5 - 0 West Ham United. Spoiler:Line-Up vs. SL Benfica ![]() An extremely tight schedule (United played West Ham on the Sunday and Benfica on the Tuesday) meant Gylfi Sigurdsson joined Robin van Persie on the unavailable list due to the Icelandic midfielder lacking full match fitness, so Brazilian Oscar came in to partner Shinji Kagawa in midfield, the only change in an otherwise consistent XI. Rafael is still on the bench as is Manuel Neuer as Danilo and Thibaut Courtois retain their starting places. Robbie Kaiser singled out Axel Witsel for praise before the game, suggesting he is a big danger to the United side. The game started off even with both sides having great attacks and meaningful chances. United skipper Shinj Kagawa was pulling all the strings for United while Axel Witsel shown why he is one of the best midfielders in the world with marauding runs and decisive through balls. Javier Hernandez drawn a smart save out of Artur Moraes and United started to edge into control of the match after that chance. It was eventually Sergio Aguero who picked the lock, breezing past Garay and Sidnei before poking the ball home past Moraes for his second goal in two and put United ahead in the away leg. Half time drew and it was SL Benfica 0 - 1 Manchester United after 45 minutes. United came out for the second half looking ready and motivated and when Oscar found a way past Sidnei he buried his chance to put United two goals up in Portugal. United were on dreamland and still attacked with purpose with Neymar coming close but he couldn't extend the Red Devils' lead to three. Then the away team got away with a chance when Axel Witsel's corner found a man in the middle of a bundle of players. The header from one of the several Benfica players who went for the ball beat Courtois but was blocked off the line by captain Kagawa. It fell to Ezequiel Garay in space but the centre-back blasted over the bar in what was Benfica's best chance of the game. United controlled the rest of a great game and the final score of the first leg was SL Benfica 0 - 2 Manchester United. Spoiler:Line-Up vs. Newcastle ![]() Manchester United's fourth and final game of February saw them travel to St. James' Park to face Newcastle United in an FA Cup clash. After Oscar picked up man of the match but Kagawa and Sigurdsson have been in great form, the manager has let all three start. His two changes to the XI is Sigurdsson's return for Hernandez and Neuer starting instead of Courtois. United switched to a 4-5-1 for what turned out to be a real thrilling and conrtoversial cup game. United controlled the early stages in front of a jam-packed St. James' Park and Neymar quickly forced a good save out of Tim Krul. The 4-5-1 was working well for United with the midfield trio bursting forward to meet Aguero's lay-offs and when the ball fell to Gylfi Sigurdsson the attacking midfielder rocketed home to put United 1-0 up. Newcastle fans could sense danger with the way Aguero was jinking past their defenders but the Magpies' Dutch stopper was equal to anything the Argentinian put in-front of him and his string of smart saves kept Newcastle in the game. However the returning Manuel Neuer would trump this effort with an amazing stop a few minutes later. Demba Ba looked to stab home from close range but the big German sprung across his net and clawed the ball off the line from behind him in what Kaiser later called "the best save I've ever seen.". The first half drawn to close after smart stops from both keepers at Man United 1 Newcastle 0. This was a lively first half but the second was even spicier... The second period got to a spicy start when Sergio Aguero ghosted through and got goalside of Fabricio Coloccini. The Argentinian defender hauled down his compatriot and the referee pointed to the spot - but for some reason not even a yellow card came out! The striker who is rekindling his form duly converted from the spot to make it 2-0 to United but the visitors were incensed that Coloccini was still on the field. Shortly after Demba Ba broke down the other end of the field only for Danilo to make a heroic last-ditch tackle timed to perfection before the referee blew his whistle and pointed to the spot! The travelling fans were outrage and the United shirts flooded the referee. Kaiser just stood bewildered for a minute before having a word with the fourth official. However, the game was yet to take another turn, there was another twist in the plot. Ba put his penalty down the middle and Neuer dived to his left only to hook the ball away with his foot! The United defenders cleared the ball away and flooded the keeper with high-fives and chest-bumps. There was yet another twist to come though. Oscar broke and raced through on goal. He knocked the ball around Tim Krul only to be pulled to floor by the Dutch stopper only for the man in the middle to outrage and incense United even more by waving away the protests! It was a stonewall penalty and Kaiser had another lengthy discussion with the fourth official on why it was not awarded. With just three minutes to go controversy reigned again. Jonny Evans had the ball in the area and sub Xisco went in for a shoulder-to-shoulder challenge but come off worse which prompted the referee to point to the spot again! Kaiser was livid on the touchline and all eleven United men immediately swarmed the referee in protest but it was all in vain. Demba Ba managed to convert from twelve yards this time to set up a nervy finish but The Red Devils held on through five minutes of added time to get the result. United's next game is on March 1st and is the Capital One Cup final against Arsenal. ^ Good on you, Schalke is a great team for Career Mode! Just a bit of advice, use Draxler a LOT, the guy's a BEAST. He was my top-scorer and Bundesliga Best Player after the first season and I had PSG willing to pay me 35 million for him even though he was still about 81 rated.

NB: I extended the time on the pitch and put speed to fast for a better game. Never again....
KavLFC Great update, imo I would either revolve the whole team around Huntelaar or sell him and use Holtby as a false 9. ![]() The trophy up for grabs vs.![]() These are two teams that need no introduction. Two giants of English and European football. Manchester United and Arsenal. These two rivals will meet in the final of the Capital One Cup. Manchester United will be looking to defend their trophy which has been at Old Trafford for two years, while Arsenal want to end their trophy drought that has lasted for so, so long. This will be a very fiery clash. Hello and welcome to our live coverage of this years Capital One Cup final. I'm John Smith and the atmosphere is amazing here in anticipation of kick-off and these two teams have long storied histories intertwined with each other. Manchester United are undefeated so far this season and are hoping to go all season without losing. The only other team to do so in recent memory? Arsenal, in 2001. Team news will be coming your way soon. Arsenal are wearing their away strip today so they will be in purple, United in red. Arsenal are using a 4-3-3 formation in tonight's match, lining up: Szczesny; Sagna, Mertesacker, Miquel, Gibbs; Cazorla, Ramsay, Wilshere; Walcott, Podolski, Gervinho. from right to left. Ramsay and Podolski are in the middle and the further advanced of their respective three. Big shock as the Manchester United line-up comes through as United are lining up in the same formation as Arsenal. Some occasion to experiment. Here's the reigning champions line-up: Neuer; Danilo, Evans, Smalling, Alba; Oscar, Kagawa, Sigurdsson; Hernandez, Aguero, Neymar. Right to left, middle of the threes advanced, you know the drill. Both managers have stated their team are going out to attack at all costs. Manchester United's man to watch has to be Sergio Aguero. The Argentinian forward has rekindled his form and in the last few games has been banging the goals in with three goals in three games - he could be a real danger to Arsenal as he is the third best player in the world when playing well which he has been. Arsenal could have a real trick up their sleeve in Theo Walcott. The pacy winger has been scoring regularly as of late - especially in cup competition - and has the pace to really hurt a side on the break. His crosses to Podolski could also prove crucial were Arsene Wenger's men to triumph. We kick off at Wembley. The pace in this game is unreal - and we're only a minute in. Shinji Kagawa dances past his man before giving it Neymar, who comes inside and has a pop but is brilliantly denied by Wojiech Szczesny and you get the feeling this could be a really good game we're going to have on our hands here, both teams spraying the ball around the park with wonderful accuracy and intent. Arsenal play some lovely football but it is eventually cut out by Chris Smalling. Jack Wilshere is pulling the strings for the Gunners as we ask you - YES, YOU READERS - for your predictions. E-mail me at imnot@work.com and the quickest e-mailer is automatically on the commentary "10000000000 nil to arzenal coz jack wilshere is teh beesssttttttt" says 'niiick' who I presume is an Arsenal fan, and was the first to e-mail so is automatically on the commentary as I promised. This is a great game. Adel Taarabt has a go from quite far out but it doesn't trouble Wojiech Szczesny, who gathers on the floor. Sergio Aguero looks very sharp and with the build-up play being great you sense a goal coming soon. We're thirteen minutes in here at Wembley. GOAL! - AGUERO (15') - Amazing! niiick's prediction won't happen! Aguero's off the ball movement is brilliant and Oscar puts him through from the edge of the area with a great ball which the Argentinian beats Cazorla to, has a lot of bad fortune with rattling the post but luckily the rebound ricochets off the grounded Szczesny past Mertesacker and falls to Sergio, who was in the right place at the right time and they all count. 1-0 United! United looking to build on that lead with Neymar who fires a shot away that forces Szczesny into a good smart stop. Cazorla has received a yellow card for a foul in the build-up to the goal. United playing some lovely football in the middle of the park here, building patiently. Arsenal building now after nicking the ball off United. Podolski is linking up brilliantly with the midfielders. United looking to break down the right with Adel Taarabt and the Moroccan does OK but his cross lacks accuracy. Sort of important really that accuracy. "Your annoying everyone with your snotty remarks mate and you think your dead funny and your not - you probably can't kick a ball mate" writes Neil. Hey Neil, it's you're. This is hard to report on to be honest as both teams are playing good football in the middle of the park. Kagawa looks to break but the midfield three entrentch themselves into a bank just in front of the defenders for Arsenal and force him back - he's done well to keep the ball though. United do deserve their lead here, they are just edging it in my opinion. Bring on the hate. "I'm really encouraged by the way that Podolski is dropping deep and getting involved in the build-up today, it could end up setting up a good attack for us" pens Matt, an Arsenal fan. Podolski has helped flood the midfield today. "United to win 3-0 here" writes Ben who is a die-hard Stretford Ender. Perhaps ambitious, but United can pull goals from even games as they did at Benfica about a fortnight ago when they won by two. That man Neymar is proving dangerous so far and he really could've scored there. Szczesny was able to stop his placed effort well but this looks good for United Arsenal quickly break and Michel Bastos has a go but it ends up wide of Manuel Neuer's post. That was good play by Arsenal as half time draws ever closer, we enter first half stoppage time. GOAL! - RAMSAY (45') - I don't believe it! Arsenal equalise! Santi Cazorla hops and skips his way through United's back four but his practically on the goal line toepoke is slowed by the abdomen of Neuer from point-blank range. Smalling gathered but his loose touch hit the flailing arm of Gylf Sigurdsson who had slid in behind Neuer to try and block Cazorla's original shot, thinking Neuer couldn't reach it. It fell to Ramsay who squeezed it past the foot of Smalling into the net with one-touch to finish the goal line scramble and Arsenal will go in on terms! Amazing! GOAL! - HERNANDEZ (45') - Or so we thought! Chicharito charged down the other end and his persistence got him a chance from the edge of the area which he buried at the first time of asking! That's a good strike from the in-form Mexican and now we have a real game. United 2-1 up with the last kick of the half! HT: MAN UNITED 2 - 1 ARSENAL Well we are all set up for an amazing second half after two goals in first half stoppage time. Both managers have again told their teams to attack so Wembley is excited for the kick-of... here we go. Manchester United playing some lovely football at the start of the second half, spraying the ball around the park. It rekindles memories of some great passing teams. It's like watching the total football Ajax of old. GOAL! - OSCAR (49') They really do deserve that! United's lovely passing lured the high line in from Arsenal and United caught them cold on the break. Neymar very unselfishly flicked the ball back from the edge of the area to Aguero who found Oscar and the central midfielder rifled home into the near bottom corner of Wojiech Szczesny's goal from over twenty yards - 3-1!!! A turbo-charged start from the league leaders and they are again playing some lovely football and building well here, taking their time on the ball and controlling the tempo of the match. They've been on the ball for a long time now and this could be really threatening... Spoke to soon there, Arsenal get the ball and break. Santi Cazorla looks threatening down the middle. He finds Lukas Podolski who goes down under pressure from Chris Smalling about twenty-five yards from goal and the referee blows up for a free kick. The German will fancy this one and Manuel Neuer has ordered a six man wall. Oh so unlucky for Podolski, but that's an amazing save from Manuel Neuer! The German bends it over the wall and it looks perfect but Germany's number one flies across his net and palms it away from the post which it looked set to hit the inside of on its way in.That really is a great save. SUBSTITUTION: Arsenal make the first substitution of the game sixty-five minutes as Gervinho makes way for Michel Bastos GOAL! WALCOTT (67') They've got one! Theo Walcott is ice cool under pressure from the defenders and calmly beats Manuel Neuer to make it 3-2. Arsenal are back in it now and they've got their tails up! Game on! Arsenal are attacking with increased intent and the wind is under their sails - they are flying. Intent in attack is top class. GOAL! WALCOTT (73') Arsenal have done it! You have to back them now! They've come back from 3-1 and are absolutely flying thanks to Theo Walcott's brace it's 3-3. Podolski slips the winger through and he leaves Smalling for dead, leaves the covering Danilo grasping at his feet in his wake and again cooly pokes past Neuer - Arsenal can sense their first silverware for ten years! The United players and manager look dejected, they can't believe it. Neither can the Arsenal fans! United have enjoyed all the possession since the goal but there's no real aura about them, they just seem so dejected despite the fact it is still all square and they have Arsenal pinned in their own half. United just lacking that spark now, they need something special but nothing seems to be happening for them. That signature spirit seems to have evaporated and they don't seem to have enough in their locker. GOAL! HERNANDEZ (80') - Oh I don't believe it! All of a sudden it's advantage United again! Why did we ever doubt them? Every single person in this stadium presumed it was all over apart from a certain Javier Hernandez. The Mexican swooped in from the right flank leaving several defenders trailing, he teed up Aguero and Szcesny was equal to that but Hernandez's goalscoring habit led him to the ball and he headed in the rebound - Chicharito poaches a goal again and this could be his most crucial of the season so far. United 4-3 Arsenal and they're ten minutes away plus stoppage time. How much difference a goal makes! United are happy to keep Arsenal penned into their own half for the remaining minutes, running down the clock. Eight minutes to go. Arsenal can't get near United who are dragging the Gooners infield then springing a quick attack on the exposed flanks but Oscar has pulled up. Danilo puts it out. SUBSTITUTIONS: Cleverley on for Oscar, Taarabt on for Hernandez and Emenike on for Aguero as United try to close in on victory. SUBSTITUTION: Diaby is on for Wilshere as Arsenal hope for something special in these last five minutes of the game. United edging closer and closer, Danilo and Taarabt interplay on the right to ruin the clock down. The clock is far too fast for Arsenal fans but the world feels in slow motion for the United faithful. After passing in the middle Neymar has it on the, and wins a corner off of Kieran Gibbs with two minutes plus the added time - whch with all the goals could be lengthy. Taarabt plays it short to Neymar who wins another, and repeat. United have done this several time as it is announced there will be at least five minutes added on. United pepper Szczesny with shots before playing it back out to the wing. Neymar just holding Gibbs off the ball and winning corners with two minutes of stoppage time to go Arsenal finally get possession and launch a quick break with two minutes of stoppage time to go... GOAL! DIABY (90') - DIIIIIIIAABBBBYYYYY!!!!!! What a masterstroke from Arsene Wenger, Abou Diaby has took United to extra time! The counter-attack resulted in the funniest late equaliser the world will ever see. Michel Bastos' low cross was intercepted by Jonny Evans while Abou Diaby hit a complete airshot, but Diaby's raised leg (raised because of the airshot) stopped one of Manuel Neuer's hands getting to the ball and the referee says it's OK so Diaby pokes home! The United camp are adamant he hooked Neuer's hand away with his foot so the goal should've been disallowed. Legal or not it was hilarious but they all count! United storm down the field and the last act of the ninety minute game will be a United corner.... OOOHHH HE SHOULD'VE DONE BETTER! Jonny Evans loses his man well but fluffs his back post header and the referee blows up on regulation time! Jonny Evans hasn't moved off the floor yet, he looks like he wants the ground to open up and swallow him. FT: MAN UNITED 4 - 4 ARSENAL What a suckerpunch that is from Arsenal, and it might just be the knock out blow. After they were pegged back to 3-3 they must of thought they'd won it with their fourth. Alas, t'was not to be (yet anyway...) and here we are at the start of extra time. Surely Arsenal have the edge but Manchester United are famed for their never say die attitude and won't take defeat lying down no matter what situation. This should be an epic conclusion to an epic battle. We kick-off and it's a tense atmosphere followed by a roar from both teams' supporters, trying to pick up their exhausted players. United have the first spell of domination in extra time, spraying the ball around the park like Spain but eventually give up possession. It's decent from the Arsenal but their, ahem, arsenal in attack seems limited - they have no Plan B and the ball is turned over to United United are looking really dangerous, have Arsenal penned in and are exposing their weakness on the overlap and down the flanks in general in defence, Taarabt and Neymar are in acres of space. This is really worrying for Arsenal now, they are looking vulnerable. GOAL! SIGURDSSON (102') - And United score in extra time! Former Spurs player Gylfi Sigurdsson has put Manchester United a goal to the good! A lot will be made of Arsenal's spirit after this game but credit to United - everytime they've been pegged back they have got up and gone again but even harder. They exposed the flanks with Neymar who pulled it back to Sigurdsson who Arsenal just failed to pick up. He got it on the edge of the area and created even more space to avoid any pressure on the ball and absolutely rocketed it onto the inside post! GOAL! DIABY (103') - All square! Podolski holds up play from kick-off and feeds the ball to Santi Cazorla. He takes a sweet touch before putting Abou Diaby through on goal and his second is much better than his first, cool slotting it underneath the dive of Neuer. Today these two teams have embodied never-say-die attitude and spirit and it has provided us with an amazing spectacle! Now we've got a game! Neymar comes inside and sends a shot fizzing towards goal but Szczesny beats it away We have a break halfway through extra time. Here we go.... Off again. An Arsenal attack is halted by a mistimed Smalling tackle and the United defender faces the consequence that is a yellow card . The set piece is good and ends with Bastos in a decent position but he can't find the target and it's a goal kick. United are playing the ball around the park as if they're confident they can get a goal. After a few minutes Adel Taarabt gets in a good position and lets fire but Szczesny's equal. United building the pressure here, Arsenal's grip on an even game loosening. Taarabt looks like he could be dangerous. GOAL! EMENIKE (115') - You couldn't make it up! Emenike scores! Emenike scores! United are in the lead with five minutes of extra time to go! Adel Taarabt ghosted into the box and forced a great stop from Wojiech Szczesny, but the rebound fell to Emmanuel Emenike. He headered the ball down but somehow it bounced up onto the crossbar! But Arsenal's luck ran out fast as the Nigerian striker, only just bought from Spartak Moscow has almost certainly bagged the winner! Manchester United 6 Arsenal 5! United keep possession as the clock runs down. The Red Devils still have it as we enter the one minute of stoppage time. Gylfi Sigurdsson lets fly and that is all she wrote! Manchester United are still undefeated and Manchester United have succesfully defended the Capital One Cup! That's all from me folks, goodnight and thanks for reading. Manchester United are the Capital One Cup winners again. MOTM: Sergio Aguero. robzda Thanks, and I'm trying to get my team to revolve around Huntelaar. Afellay, Holtby and Farfan are amazing. And I failed a little on the transfers :/
Great match report, by the way | |
