Company of Heroes 2 will be kicking off its closed beta next week, on Tuesday, which lets participants try out the multiplayer segment ahead of everyone else. There's just a catch: the first phase only includes pre-order customers. So that's a bit of a bummer to anyone who hasn't reserved a copy yet.
Now if you're one of the people who did pre-order, the multiplayer beta begins April 2 and features six different maps, with 1v1 to 4v4 gameplay modes. If player-on-player violence isn't your thing, the beta will allow player vs. AI play. In terms of multiplayer progression, the beta opens up the first 40 levels, with customizable loadouts in the new Army Customizer.
Don't worry if you didn't pre-order though, because Relic and SEGA have ensured that the second phase (whenever that comes around) will include a "wider audience." No word yet on how that audience will be chosen, however, so we'll need to keep an ear and eye out for more info as it comes.
The closed beta will be hosted on Steam and utilize Steamworks. No problems here.
