Company of Heroes 2 was officially announced this morning, and THQ is expecting to release the sequel to Relic Entertainment's strategy IP in 2013. By then, Company of Heroes would have celebrated its sixth anniversary.
The upcoming sequel heads east and drops players in the frozen Eastern Front of World War II, straight amidst the conflict between Nazi forces and Russia's formidable Red Army. A debut screenshot offers an early look of the icy change in scenery (above).
About the new installment, Relic producer Greg Wilson remarked:
“Company of Heroes 2 is a true successor, introducing a new front, new protagonists and new technology while retaining the unique mix of strategic gameplay and competitive multiplayer that made the original Company of Heroes such a success.”
Due for PC (of course), Company of Heroes 2 will utilize Relic's very own Essence 3.0 Engine, which supports what THQ is calling "Dynamic Battle Tactics," in addition to better graphics and environmental destruction.
