multiplayer Assault Rifles

Is there actually any point in using these? Even at a decent range I seem to get outgunned by SMG's and before anyone says "lol ur aim sux get bttr noob", my aim is actually spot on, and I seem to get a lot of hitmarkers before being dropped considerably fast.

I use them almost exclusively. Like a real man.
My results vary. Sometimes I do awesome (relatively. My "awesome" would probably be a rage quit for most people on here), sometimes I do terrible.

It's really just about getting used it.

Problem isn't SMG's being overpowered or AR's being underpowered, it's that a lot of the maps promote close quarter gunfights. You can dominate a map like Carrier with an AR or LMG. It all depends.

Ajax since I stopped using the PDW after prestiging, when I used my token on the AN my KD has dropped .40, and my W/L .30. MW3 was plagued by a similar issue in map design if you ask me, I'm starting to wonder if it's Raven Softwares involvement in the series from MW3 on.

CoD's always been fast paced and thus a lot of people flocked to SMGs, but if you compare how usable ARs were in Black Ops to how they are in 2...There's some really shitty map design going on. Standoff and Aftermath are the only maps I can really think of that are well designed for all ranges.

Turbine is a sack of shit so I won't talk about that abomination. And Carrier is a sniper fest up above. There really isn't much wiggle room for us AR users.

I like AR's. But you have to have different playstyles for different types of gun. And also the route u take matters. Choose a route that will give u an advantage for your type of gun. Assuming u know the map by now.

Honestly though, ARs are my favorite weapons in the game. When I play with the SMR or SIG, I tend to get into close-quarter gunfights very often and I almost never end up losing them.It is all about aim... Or a good trigger finger...
I can use the QD + Stock + Fast mags combo (as seen in jbh 's post above) to gain a greater advantage.

I find SMGs other than the Chicom CQB and the PDW-57 very lackluster in everything they do. When I encounter an SMG user, they are almost always going 'LA53R N0 516T5'. To beat an AR at close range you need for every shot to hit or you will be destroyed. End of.

A enhanced sight and foregrip have done me good in the past, I'm typically a run and gunner using shotguns, smgs, and secondaries, but on big maps i'll throw on the M8A1, type 25 or AN94 for the range factor

I would like to add to my earlier statement by saying one's performance in battle will shoot up by 70% if they have a reliable secondary. By reliable I mean a weapon that can be used at any range and can be pulled out instantly... The TAC-45 is the perfect sidearm that never misses out on some action.
I have an addiction to pistols in these games. In BO and MW3, I would just run around a corner with my pistol out and dispense the lead before switching to my primary.
I recommend that everyone who is hating on ARs in this game should try an M27/T25/SCAR-H with a KARD, FNP-45 or Five seveN. That is, if you weren't using it that way or properly (whichever)
