Local Multiplayer

Didn't see a thread for this, and it really seems like an interesting topic (on my mind at least).

As we've heard, Coin Rush and Story Co-Op are, unfortunately, local only. What are your thoughts on this? Do you think you will be using it with a friend?

I'd honestly buy it day one if I knew I could play it with a friend online, but that won't be happening. =( I might do co-op with one of my friends if the game is short enough to run through in a few hours like the original NSMB was. I'm more of a single-player kinda guy though, so if I do pick it up, I'll run through it a few times alone.

I do like the StreetPass part of Coin Rush though. That is good StreetPass functionality. It pulls out the competitive human nature perfectly. "Oh, that random kid! I shall destroy hiiiiim!" It's such a stupid, simple thing, but everyone wants to do it.

What are your thoughts? Do you think online should've been executed?

Personally, I'm pretty content with co-op being local only. Not trying to label everyone on Nintendo wi-fi, but can you imagine going through the game with someone who's just there to cause headaches? I realize there are ways to dismiss people like that, but to me it would be more trouble for what it's worth.

On the other hand, Coin Rush through Street Pass is a fantastic idea. As Symphonic Abyss already mentioned, any sort of competitive play is bound to bring people in to play. While I agree more could have been done concerning online, what we are about to get is enough until DLC arrives in the future.

It's a missed opportunity on Nintendo's part for not having online multiplayer for this game as it could always add a bit more to the game. It doesn't bother me entirely because if I really want to play New Super Mario Brothers with someone, I'll play the Wii version because that was just a great game for multiplayer. Plus I doubt I will have a chance to play this locally unless my one friend actually starts buying new 3DS games.

Don't expect to get many Streetpasses either. I bring my 3DS with me everywhere and don't really get many. But maybe I can get a good score and then send it out if I ever do some travelling.

The person who I would multiplay with still has old game systems.

Online play would have been really fun, but oh well.
