Steam has been doing it in the form of free trials, where you gain access to a game for free over the weekend, and access goes away on Monday. I think Xbox Live and PSN have been trying this too?

Places like Blockbuster and other rental places are obsolete and should no longer exist in this decade. I'm surprised some have actually lasted this long. The last game I remember renting was a Super Nintendo game called Krusty's Fun House.

And it's true. PC gaming and PC software does not have a used game market. In that respect it may cancel out sales losses from piracy. What the console market wants is that same system. Once again moving consoles closer and closer towards being watered-down PCs.

The worst case scenario for consoles is the possibility that user accounts of your digital online collection are locked to your console, so that if two or more people in one house want to share the same xbox, they will have to buy games on the same account, meaning only one of them will ultimately own the entire collection, leading people to buy an xbox for each individual person in a household.

That might not be the case until the generation after the 720. It's money gouging techniques that have kept me away from consoles to begin with.
