OK... I used to play this on PS2 and then I gave it up. Now I want to play it again but it has been too long and they deleted my account. I can get a new PS2 version for 30 from a guy I know but I still have to pay 10 for Chains of Prom. and 50 for Treasures of Aht Urhgan OR pay 30 for the Vana'diel Collection 2007 for PC. Is it worth the money on PS2(I now have a PS3) or should I just go with the cheaper route on the computer? Pro's and Con's to both:

PS3 in my room= stay up playing it... parents dont know dont get mad

PS3 is wireless internet connection= slower speed.. but slow enough to cause lag?

Computer is wired connection= no lag

Computer in room across hall from parents= they know how late I play...

Any advice would be much appreciated...

FFXI is designed for 56k. As long as your wifi signal isnt so poor as to drop your signal you will be ok.

Don't forget that PS3 might not be very compatible with FFXI.

I play it on my PS3, and it works just fine. It's very compatible with FFXI.

How does the new playonline viewer work on PS3? I was thinking about playing on PS3 but my friend said it won't work unless you have the old version playonline viewer.

You can download this special (free) file from the US store which makes it compaitible so you don't actually need to worry about anything. It will work just the same as it does on the PS2, cept that you don't need to pay for any seperate parts (just the game as usual).

I have downloaded it but the thing is, I live in Europe. If the game is released (the 2008 compilation) here then I don't wanna spend money on it and not have it work :/

I'll give you my honest recommendation, and that is to skip this game. You have to remember that as well as buying this game, you will essentially have to pay monthly subscription fees to play this game after the first month, which will essentially means that either way you'll be spending a lot of money.

But if you don't mind the money spending then that's another story, but I'm not 100% sure if the download will work in the UK, especially since FFXI has been discontinued here for the PS2 as far as I know, and they have no plans to bring out any more expansion packs for it on the PS2 (I believe).

Man, FFXI is a great game, ESPECIALLY ON THE PS3, nothing is really different except enhanced GFX... And on PC the GFX are miserable, Good choice on buying the PS2 version my man, You saved yourself A LOT of trouble... Considering the Best GFX card for PC's and MACs are ATI Radeon...

The PC version is capable of far superior texture resolutions and fluid graphics compared to the other versions.

Capable doesn't mean that they actually use it. The PS3 is capable of next-gen graphics, but if you've seen or played Kane & Lynch, you'll realise how shitty the graphics are. Again, capability doesnt necessarily mean that they will use it.

With PC games not everyone has top-notch graphics cards, and so they don't always put in top-notch graphics so as to appeal to a wider audience.

Lawl My PS3 is modded all the best GFX cards and Speed blaster and Sound ATI cards... soo the GFX are always amazing on ANY game with My PS3
And PCs suck, I have The ATI Radeon it's horrible, And It's the best GFX cards available... Trust me PCs are not better ANYTHING then PS3s lol...
