That little flying machina also prevents Lulu from using her Spells. It negates ALL magic and Summoning while it's alive.

What do you mean won't let you use it? It's just like any other sphere, if you're next to a Level 1 Key Lock, just use the Level 1 Key Sphere on it, like you would a Power Sphere on a Strength node.

Before the fight: Go back to the Thunder Plains and Steal at least three Chocobo Feathers from the Qactuars there (the little Cactus fiends) and Steal at least three Light Curtains from the Iron Giants. If you have any Lightning/Electro Marbles, this will make the fight a bit easier as well. Also, if you can Steal a Silver Hourglass from a Kusariqqu as well, this will make the fight a bit easier (note that a Silver Hourglass from Kusariqqu is a rare Steal, which only occurs 25% of the time during a successful Steal, there are ways to raise these odds, but not at this point in the game).

Chocobo Feather - applies the Haste status to one character.
Light Curtain - applies the Protect status to one character.

You can't use magic for Haste and Protect, but you can use these items.

Hopefully you have some Lightningstrike weapons, this'll make the fight a bit easier.

Crawler

Leave the Negator alone! If you don't destroy the Negator, the only attack Crawler can use is Gatling Guns.

Start with Tidus, Auron, and Rikku in the front lines. Have Rikku use the Silver Hourglass on the Crawler if you picked one up, this will Slow the Crawler.

Then have her use a Chocobo Feather on herself, Tidus, and Auron, in that order. After that, have her use the Light Curtains on all three characters as well. While this is happening, have Tidus use Cheer five times, to help reduce the damage received from Gatling Guns, and to help increase the physical damage output of the party.

Once Rikku has finished setting up Protect and Haste on Tidus, Auron, and herself, switch Lulu in only if she has learned Reflex. Use Reflex five times to dramatically increase Tidus and Auron's Evasion.

After that, bring Rikku back in and have her spam any lightning related items she has in her inventory (from the Use command) while Tidus and Auron hack away with their weapons. Use Rikku to heal with Hi Potions when necessary.

are you next to the lvl 1 lock on the sphere grid? are you trying to use it while using the sphere grid,with the charactor next to the lock?
