Aha! Square Enix has decided to come clean after news broke earlier this week that both Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2 were being remastered in HD. Officially, both titles will be coming to PlayStation 3 and PS Vita in 2013, with both games bundled onto the PlayStation 3 disc, but sold separately on Vita. It may not be as exciting as if we hadn't had those stupid leaks, but it's still awesome news!
Yoshinori Kitase, Final Fantasy X and X-2 producer, offered his excitement on bringing his games to modern consoles:
"These games are classic fan-favorites, and we hope that new and old FINAL FANTASY fans can experience the world of Spira and the story of Tidus and Yuna in a brand-new light with these remastered editions."
While "2013" is a rather vague release window, it's still better than nothing. We can also extrapolate that due to the announcement being for PlayStation 3 and not PlayStation 4, we can likely expect the games to be released prior to the PS4 launch. I'd hazard a guess for either September or October. Maybe earlier!
There's also a number of new screenshots for the HD remasters, allowing us to finally check out the games in all their visual splendor. No joke, the game looks great. Maybe not as great as Final Fantasy XIII or anything, but still very impressive for PS2 era titles.
Look forward to more information on the Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2 HD remasters next week, when we'll update you all with the new trailer -- finally letting us see the classic Final Fantasy title in motion.
