All of the Dark Aeon's attacks are non-elemental. All of them, even Hell Fire, Diamond Dust, Thor's Hammer, Aerospark...

Although I don't think that's possible... you would also need Haste, Focus, Curaga/Regen, Cheer, Luck (actually most of the special attacks just to get your stats higher) and all these just to have a better chance...remember even a hasted aeon doesn't have more than 2 or 3 rounds against a dark aeon...even with 255 Agility...also remember aeons don't have armour so no Auto-Protect, Auto-Haste Auto Reflect etc...so in every turn if you have 3 rounds b4 DI's attack what would you do?...and after you are KO'ed with no haste on...then what??

Yes, Ifrit (or any other elemental Aeon) CAN defeat Dark Ifrit by itself.

1. Summon your elemental aeon.
2. Cast Haste, cast Shell and use Shield.
3. After the first Hellfire, heal fully with Doublecast on the first turn, cast Protect on the second and Shield with the third.
4. After the next Hellfire, heal fully with the first turn, attack normally on the second (80,000 damage) and Shield on the third.
5. Repeat from step 4.

Elemental Aeons need to heal themselves in battle with the corresponding Magic and Double Cast, since it's a magic spell the "damage" is determined by the caster's magic stat and the target's Magic Defense stat. Curaga simply doesn't heal enough, and you can only cast it once. Double Casting Drain is also an option, but not nearly as effective.

It's possible whether or not you believe it.

I could go more in depth with the strategy if that would help.

I don't know..it's just I used to get so mad with dark aeons until I used yojimbo, or until got 255 on all characters...

And a simple ifrit can beat it..LOL
