Balloon arrangement is the only luck involved. As for the birds at the end, if you take a diagonal path "rebounding" off the invisible walls at you can avoid the birds.

Not anyone who looks at the race logically.

There's no other reason why people like myself, Blitz, and Tyrant can get 0:0.0 almost on command and other people have an extremely difficult time with it.

It's not because we're lucky, it's because we took the time to practice and understand how the race works. If it was luck based then I would have trouble getting the Sigil at least on occasion, but I don't. A failed attempt for me is usually a product of me trying to get a balloon that I know I shouldn't, or simply not paying that much attention to the game.

As for the balloon arrangements, that's the only luck involved, and it only matters for the very first part. You can still beat 0:0.0 even if you don't collect a single balloon before the big turn. People are far too concerned what the trainer is doing, there are plenty of balloons to go around. Yeah, it's nice getting 3-5 balloons before the big turn, I'm sure a lot of people rely on that.


People who don't do so well in the race tend to fall back on the excuse that it's all luck based. It makes them feel better about not being able to do it (same thing with Kimahri's Sigil) and gives them a (seemingly) valid excuse.

I don't mean to rag on anyone who can't complete the race, but believe me, there's a lot more skill involved than luck.
