Just wanted to point out that the thumbnails of the formations are clickable so you can see them full size.
 Euro 2016 Nine IA Academy graduates made it to the European Championships this year; Ash Harbin, Ravi Parmar and Almighty God were chosen to represent England while Simon Andersson, Per Lindholm and Oscar Hult made it into the Swedish squad. Sergei Dravinski recovered enough from injury to make the Croatia squad and Nathan Holmes joined up with Norway for his first international tournament while Barcelona's Welshman Arwel 'El Plebbo' Thomas made was selected for Wales. Busi did not make the Spanish squad as he did not recover in time from a late season injury. Formations      Group Stage Group A  England: As expected England topped their group but they started with a nervy game against the Swiss that they should have won but ended up with a 2-2 all draw which they then built on against the Czech's as they beat them 3-1 without really breaking a sweat before England were shocked by a superb Slovenia side that easily outplayed them. Group B  Wales: The Welsh came, they saw and they were largely outplayed before returning home. After a bruising opening encounter with Serbia the Welsh were then held with a late goal from the Romanians in a 1-1 draw that left them already out of the competition before they were then promptly shown the exit by Italy in a 2-1 loss. Group E - The Academy Group Of Death  Croatia: Sergei Dravinski recovered enough to feature for his country at this tournament as they ended up bottom of their group with no points. They faced Nathan Holmes Norway side to kick off the tournament and after playing fairly well they lost the game 1-0 in the end before going on to face the Swedish trio of Lindholm, Hult and Andersson in the second match which they then lost 1-0 after a Simon Andersson goal. The writing was on the wall for Croatia but Spain but them to the sword in the final match putting three goals past them. Norway: Nathan Holmes carried his team through the group stage putting in some impressive performances on the right wing for Norway as they opened up with a 1-0 win in a close game against Croatia before then losing out in a hard fought game to Spain but they put that result aside and managed to make it out of the group thanks to an equaliser in the final game from Holmes. Sweden: The Swedish team started off Group E with a hammering by Spain but they recovered after that to take three points away from Croatia before being held to a 1-1 draw with Norway after conceding a penalty late in the game. Second Round England: After a disappointing final group game against Slovenia, England did some repair work against Serbia as they beat them 3-1 with goals coming from three of the five man England midfield allowing them to progress to the Quarter Finals. Norway: Norway and Holmes gave it their all in the competition and it was a brilliant match against Slovenia with 7 goals in total but the final goal went to Slovenia as they saw off the plucky Norwegian side 4-3 leaving many to wonder how well Norway could have done if they'd been given an easier draw. Sweden: The injury to Per Lindholm just rubbed salt into the wound for a Swedish side that knows it missed a great chance and they gave themselves too much to do after conceding two early goals, they were always chasing the game from that point and despite a valiant effort they exit they tournament too early for their quality. Quarter Finals England: Our only representatives a this stage and it was an unwelcome debut for Ash Harbin would had finally recovered from injury to take the No1 shirt but it was not to be a great day for him as England were seen off by Spain in a close match that was decided late on. Things may have been different if Harbin had been available from the first match to find his legs but in the end England had chances to score and failed to do so. Italy ran out eventual winners of the tournament with a 3-1 win over Denmark in the final and despite having 9 Academy players in the tournament only one of them made it into the team of the tournament but there will certainly be another day for these young players.  -------------------  | |
