	8.01pm United are looking to get themselves back into this game after going down two goals very early on. Wayne Rooney is played through only for Joe Hart to thwart him. The rebound falls to Christian Eriksen on the edge of the area who drags his shot well wide of the mark. 8.04pm: BOOKED! Phil Jones receives a booking for a clumsy foul on Sergio Aguero. From the free-kick, City almost get a third as David Silva finds Marouane Fellaini on the back post who can only header the ball over the crossbar. 8.07pm United have the right to feel aggrieved from the linesman’s decision here. Javier Hernandez’s effort cannons off Joe Hart into the path of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who tucks the ball into the net, only to glance at the linesman’s offside flag raised on the near side. 8.10pm Javier Hernandez almost unlocked a way back into this contest for United as his glancing header falls just over the crossbar. 8.15pm Whilst United are getting forward more often, their opposition in the shape of Man City are looking more potent whilst venturing forward, proved by Sergio Aguero’s latest lashed effort on goal. 8.18pm Gael Clichy is even getting in on the domination that City are providing here at Wembley by forcing a corner from a De Gea save, United really need to improve if they want to win the Champions League here. 8.19pm However, City continue to look more dangerous on the attack, Sergio Aguero curling a free-kick only inches wide of the post. 8.25pm: BOOKED Wayne Rooney has been booked for a trip on Vincent Kompany in the Manchester City penalty area. 8.31pm: GOAL! With half-time looming, Jake Doyle was out barking orders to his players and it apparently worked as Christian Eriksen’s free-kick found a bizarrely unmarked Mats Hummels who manages to strike the ball home. ------------------- blog \| newspaper \| radio

	8.46pm The teams are back out for the second half and it is Manchester City who will get us under way in this match which is now nicely poised at 2-1 going into the second half. 8.48pm: GOAL! Just when it seemed that United had got a foothold in the game, a mixture of Sergio Aguero and David de Gea ensure that City restore their two-goal lead early on at Wembley as the Spaniard’s mistake allows the ball to trickle in inside 65 seconds of the second half. 8.50pm United are clearly taking more risks with nothing left to lose at two goals down and Aguero exploits a gap on the left-wing as City pile bodies into the box, Fellaini’s header going a bit off target. 8.51pm Clearly Jake Doyle doesn’t like what he’s seeing here as he hauls off both Michael Carrick and Antonio Valencia and brings back Shinji Kagawa for his first outing in nearly ten months whilst Ashley Young replaces Valencia on the right-wing for United. 8.53pm De Gea and United are fortunate to be keeping the score down as the Spanish goalkeeper has to hurl himself across goal to keep out a dangerous-looking wayward cross. ------------------- blog \| newspaper \| radio

	8.56pm United aren’t getting enough of the ball here at Wembley as Edin Dzeko’s effort has to be pushed onto the underside of the crossbar by De Gea. 8.59pm Doyle is out of his technical area, screaming at his players to do something as Hummels tries to convert Ashley Young’s corner only to see it saved by Joe Hart. 9.05pm Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been United’s best player by a distance tonight and he links up well with Kyle Walker on the left-wing only to see the former Spurs full-back’s effort well kept out by Hart. 9.16pm Christian Eriksen hobbles off to be replaced by Tom Cleverley only for Kyle Walker to go down moments later as City continue to pepper the United goal. Not a good final for United, this one. 9.21pm City are still causing problems and a break in play allows Doyle to shuffle the deck a bit, we sit Kyle Walker and Phil Jones almost acting as secondary wingers to Oxlade-Chamberlain and Young, acting in almost a 2-4-4 formation. 9.24pm United are playing with their hearts on their sleeves here, the midfield are hounding everything that City are doing but they just have too much about them today as Sergio Aguero’s effort almost flies in from thirty yards. 9.27pm: GOAL! That concludes United’s efforts as Carlos Tevez’s long range drilled low effort is deflected by Jonny Evans away from De Gea and into the net. United have been unfortunate tonight. 9.28pm United know that their efforts are futile but kudos for the outfit to keep plugging away at the City goal as Rooney gets into a decent position and strikes the foot of the post. 9.33pm The referee sounds his whistle on a damning night for Manchester United as they lose their third successive Champions League final, gifting a first to their arch nemesis, Manchester City on a poor night for the club and Jake Doyle whose rookie season is completed with the 4-1 loss. ------------------- blog \| newspaper \| radio

	In the early ebbs of the summer transfer window, Jake Doyle, the Manchester United manager celebrated the first anniversary of his tenure at the club with a record signing of Marek Hamsik, with the Slovak midfielder joining the Red Devils from Napoli for a reported 41.5 million. It appears that the reported 33 million transfer packet has been breached despite the fee to be paid in installments to the Italian club for the next 24 months. A player who didn’t feature as much as he may have had in recent seasons in Darren Fletcher didn’t turn his recovery from a viral infection into a solid first-team place what with the signing of Christian Eriksen and the superb displays by the likes of Antonio Valencia, Michael Carrick and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. On the third day of the window, United announced his sale via their club website to Stoke City for a fee in the region of 11 million. Sky Sports News understands that Doyle rejected lower bids from both Tottenham Hotspur and Wolverhampton Wanderers as Stoke won the signature for the Scottish midfielder. In other news for the club, Jake Doyle was gladly unveiled the bronze statue of Sir Alex Ferguson in the off-season, situated adjacent to the one of Sir Matt Busby. 	Possibly the signing that never was circulated all the sports newsrooms in Europe was the possibility of Gareth Bale’s switch to Manchester United. The 24-year old Welsh winger was prohibited from moving to Manchester from London as his current club, Tottenham slapped a 98 million price tag on the winger. Jake Doyle, in an interview with the BBC in the run-up to the Community Shield clash with Everton in August claimed it was “ridiculous” and claiming that “no player, or person in any profession is worth this much.” United were reportedly offering a 37 million deal for the winger which was deemed unacceptable by the North London club. That sort of money was only achieved by Doyle from the sales of a couple of players. It was Tottenham themselves who made an initial bid of 6.25 million for left-back Fabio until Norwich beat them and Swansea to the punch, signing the Brazilian full-back for 8 million. After having almost ten months out with a cruciate ligament injury, Kagawa had gone down in Doyle’s estimations and his attempts to offload the playmaker for over 25 million went awash this summer, Lazio’s 17.5 million bid being rejected by Doyle. The biggest sale in terms of money made for United was the sale of Jonny Evans who joined Patrice Evra at PSG for a total of 15 million, beating the likes of Juventus and AC Milan to the Northern Irish defender’s signature. In other news, United have taken a back seat to their rivals Manchester City in SkyBet’s odds to win the Premier League title. City, who beat their arch rivals in the Champions League final 4-1 in May are believed to have the edge over Doyle’s United by the bookmakers and put them at 5-4 for the new season whilst United are priced at 5-2. 	United added to their signing of Marek Hamsik with a Brazilian quintuplet. Rafael Toloi was snapped up from under Arsenal’s noses with an eleventh hour bid for the central defender, tagged as a long-term successor to Nemanja Vidic. The 22-year old Brazilian defender claimed he was “delighted” to be at Old Trafford when signing autographs. Another few names for the future that Doyle is close to capturing are the two from Gremio, Marcao has got past his work permit and will sign next June whilst Gean Luis’ work permit is expected to go through during the week and will sign next summer. Michael Carrick steps up, looking nervously at the ball.. and blazes it well over the crossbar. 1-1! De Gea playing some mind games by standing to one side of the goal and manages to beat out Jelavic’s penalty. 1-1! Mats Hummels, proven penalty taker in Germany, goes the same way as Van Persie. 2-1! That side definitely seems to be favouring the takers as Pienaar drills a low penalty home. 2-2! Danny Welbeck subverts the norm in this shootout, going to the left hand side, placing the ball high into the net. 3-2! Phil Jagielka, no nonsense, into the right hand corner out of De Gea’s reach. 3-3! Would you believe it?! Kagawa has his penalty saved by Tim Howard, all down to one penalty now. 3-3! Valencia is again the outlet for the cross and on the back post the Slovak makes no mistake in punishing the home side, drilling in a low shot which creeps in on the near post. BOLTON 1-2 MAN UTD 84: Game well and truly over, Michael Carrick and Chris Smalling bundle the ball about them as the English midfielder finds Robin van Persie with acres of room to finish, and he does. BOLTON 1-3 MAN UTD 90+1: Valencia has been outstanding today and the triangle pass between him, Robin van Persie and ultimately Danny Welbeck is the simple passage of play which allows the latter to seal United’s victory with a fourth. United concede yet again but this time from the penalty spot as Smalling brings down Victor Anichebe with Phil Jagielka thumping the penalty into the top corner. EVERTON 1-2 MAN UTD MAN OF THE MATCH Mats Hummels IN OTHER NEWS Phil Jones has picked up the young player of the month whilst Liverpool’s Rafael Benitez pipped Jake Doyle to the manager of the month award. However, the English full-back came back from his international matches with his first England goal but a torn calf muscle – three months on the sidelines. Despite being favourites for the Premier League, Manchester City take a back seat to Jake Doyle’s Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League odds.
