Log in to remove this sponsored message  Project of Youth - Unexpected Success  There seemed to be a pattern that was happening this month, win, draw, win, draw, win and finally a draw. We could not seem to connect the victories together, no matter what we tried. Not that I was really too upset about it, it was just we couldn't stop conceding goals. The last game, Crawley, was only a draw because of a horrific mistake from Newman, which will see him dropped and Coates taking the role of the main goalkeeper for the remaining five games of the season. Still, it didn't prepare me for the surprise that I was going to get when the match had ended.  We were actually crowned champions in the last game of the month, Plymouth and Notts County both had horrible months in regards to form... well compared to Tonbridge at least. The thing that I think is most surprising about this month, is just how well Gillingham have been doing. They took 15 points from a possible 18, slinging themselves in the hunt for 2nd place and the remaining promotion spot. Never expected my local club to suddenly pull that off, I must admit.  I'm not really too sure what to make of my side's performances anymore, I just know that Balfe will be taking Morrish's place in the side, Coates will be getting a run in the first team officially at long last. While two players who came from the latest Youth Intake made their league debuts for the side.  Speaking of the Youth Intake, we got at least a handful of really good players. However, only two players really jumped out to me as standout contenders for players that I will be using in the side. Wayne Parsons and Pete Sydenham.  Wayne Parsons, has got potential to be better than Nicky King, a bold claim to make, I know, but for a good reason, I feel that he will be better than the Tonbridge's record goalscorer, the man who has been the only player to reach 125 league goals for the club. Just keep an eye out for this kid in the future.  Pete Sydenham, has been the greatest player to come through the academy in years, at least the one who has had the most skill to begin with. Finally having a player who can provide competition for Josh Charles' place as Attacking Midfielder, I could even put out an even bolder claim that this kid could perhaps be one of the greatest ever players that has ever played for Tonbridge, when he finally reaches his full potential. He's good enough to play for a good Championship side already, and with Josh Charles been making noises about wanting to leave the club, I have nothing to really fear anymore... unless a team decides to steal him on a pre-contract. Pete Sydenham... is a player that I have really high hopes for. Project of Youth - My Greatest Defeat With Tonbridge  How do I sum up this month? Horrible. Yes, I won the Johnstone's Paint Trophy for a second season running, but that was expected of us, since we were facing off against Rochdale who were not only a division below us, but had lost in the final the season before we had won it. Still, the scoreline we won it by was great. However, that does not give my side a damn excuse to allow themselves to be beaten 4-0 by Gillingham! Damn them! I took out Coates, who I had been allowing a run of games simply because of the result. It's not only the greatest defeat that I have suffered, it's also the greatest in Tonbridge's history. That's my reason for being livid with this month.  Another reason for being upset with this month is the fact that our 13 point lead had been cut down to just 6, which I felt was closer than I wanted it to be. We actually did worse at home than away, despite the fact we lost more games on the road. It was simply due to the fact we drew more games at home than we did away. Still, I had to say that going up with Plymouth and Gillingham, the latter of the two teams who beat me 4-0 to help their cause. Random fact, I actually lost to both teams during the season, a first for me. I also lost at least once in all competitions to the top three sides below me, so Notts County can curse and moan all they want... it won't do a thing.  I honestly have no idea what has happened to Nicky King, but he has really been hit by a bad run of form... so bad that I am actually considering replacing him as the lone striker next season, with Wayne Parsons, weird? Well that's something I am going to try and experiment with, since I can. The Craig Coates experiment didn't work out too well, but the partnership between Neil Orton and Carlton Balfe has, so who knows? There's still a hope for Josh Sheppard as well. I'm looking forward to next season, where I will face, Aston Villa and Birmingham in the Championship, not bad, eh? Mentor... has not been feeling too well lately, that much I know. Despite being in his early 60s, he has been growing weaker and weaker everyday, so bad that I know that he might only have a year or two to live. When I told Jessica this, she became emotional, to which I told her that I was going to be continuing the work he had left for me. It worked in calming her down, since it told her that I would continue to work on his legacy. The Project of Youth. As I look into Mentor's eyes, at his bedside, I smile at him reassuringly, letting him know that I will do everything that I can to make his dream come true. "Mentor, you don't need to worry, we will win the Champions League one day, I vow to do what Sir Alex Ferguson did with Manchester United." I told him with a sad smile. "I will make sure that Tonbridge Angels will be the dominating force that Manchester United are, breaking their record of 22 League Titles." "You don't need to put an old man's mind at ease with your words, James." Mentor's words were quiet, but they were still as loud as thunder to my ears. "I know that you will complete my task, that much I can rest easily with." But you most likely will not live to see it happen, how could you be so calm about this? I wanted to scream these words at him, but I just couldn't, not when he is so at peace. "We're at the Championship now, just one more promotion to go." I grinned at Mentor. "When we get promoted to the Premier League, I will take the whole family out to a celebratory dinner, I want to have a good time with my father-in-law." I looked at the ring on my finger, the sign of my new marriage that had taken place in April. "That will be nice." I hope that you will live to see it happen. Project of Youth - A Friendly Profit  A Time for a new month has arrived, how wonderful. It's not because of the fact that I am more likely going to be losing players during this time of the month than any other, however, seeing Pete Sydenham rejecting contract offers from Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Newcastle and Tottenham in order to stay at Tonbridge was a massive win for me, especially when Wayne Parsons rejected a contract from Everton as well. The best result during the pre-season was the draw against Real Sociedad, simply because it was a good result, nothing more.  After seeing the link between Tonbridge and Brighton break down (with being in the same league the main reason), Anderlecht had become the parent club of Tonbridge Angels, which an offer of my youth players being able to get experience at Anderlecht, giving me reason to be concern that some of the players coming through our academy could find themselves at Anderlecht. How annoying.  We were actually given good promotion odds, much to my surprise, but then again the media could just be looking at the fact we had been promoted for 4 years running to get to this stage so far and realizing that we could actually get promoted for a 5th and final time. Not bad odds when you think about it.  I was actually offered the job at St Johnstone during this time, but I rejected the approach, since I had no intention of leaving Tonbridge Angels, understandably so as well, I feel. The offer that they gave me was actually worse than the offer Tonbridge gave me, not that they know that, nor would I tell them that.  Once again, I allowed several of my players to go out on loan, however, the sheer amount of players that had gone out in loan just screamed how many quality players was being produced by the academy and how many young players I had at the club. Nobody in the squad has reached the age of 22 yet.   I remember complaining about losing Jamie Watts last season to Brighton, well, I have no reason to be upset about it anymore, since I managed to get a sum of the £3.5M that Brighton gained by selling the player. I had not expected to be getting 15% of the deal, nor did I expect it to be around £525K either. I'm not complaining too much anymore.  I've had a look at the Championship this season, and I had to make a guess of where I could potentially finish in this table with the talent that I currently in my squad. With teams like Aston Villa, Birmingham, Bolton, Cardiff, Hull, Ipswich, Leeds, Leicester, Middlesborough, Nottingham Forest, Reading and Wigan, I had to give a feeling of where I felt that I could finish, a really wild guess at that. Would finishing top of the table be a bit much to believe in? Project of Youth - Nothing Is Ever Perfect  As I look through some of my notes, I look back upon how many times the side has messed up over the years, anyone who sees the success, only remembers the good things in the game. However, I still remember the mistakes that has cost my team goals, the smallest mistake that allowed the opponents to get the ball, everything that I could use, I considered a mistake. Still, despite this, we have been having a wonderful month so far. We've managed to get to the League Cup 3rd Round for the very first time, and have been rewarded with a tie against Manchester United, a game against AVB. Now that is something I look forward to, especially since we host them at out ground. Still, despite the draw against Derby being the only disappointment, it's been a really good start to the season.  I am not blind, I don't look at the table with one eye open and declare "We're never going to lose 1st spot!", that would just stupid. I know that it's still early in the year and that only because of our 5-1 win against Bristol City we are currently 1st in the league. With 42 games to go, there is simply too much for me to believe that we could be champions yet. What kind of example would I be showing if I did? A bad one.  Nicky King, is struggling so far this season, perhaps it's because I've been playing Wayne Parsons more this season, and understandably so, when you consider his record so far. Still, he had been struggling since last season. Ironically enough, Gareth Axten's hat-trick against Bristol City meant that he had scored the most goals this season, followed by Josh Charles, who has been performing extremely well, but wants £56K per week... which is more than the club is offering as my budget. Greedy bastard. Still, I can't complain with performances so far this season. Kevin Hemsley made a successful debut against Bristol City after spending two years on loan at Hayes & Yeading, however, he is merely backup for Matthew Whalley, who is the best Left-Back in the squad. Still, we have an international break up now (first time in Tonbridge's history), so we can make the most of this current situation. We hope for a successful season. Sydenham looks like he can become a monster. I'm loving your story so far, I have a feeling you may struggle a bit this season though as the Championship has so many better teams in than the previous leagues (obviously) but it's great to see you're getting a good start! Are you going to try and go for the FA or Capital One Cup this season as you don't have the Johnstone's paint?
