Free-to-play multiplayer mech shooter Hawken is set to get a new update on April 18 that adds the game's first support mech. Dubbed the Technician, this mech can heal its allies to keep the fight going as long as possible. It isn't totally helpless however, as it carries plenty of firepower to make sure the fights aren't one-sided. The new update also has plenty of other features too, including weapon rebalances, a new map, and more.
The Technician mech is a close-range medic with a dual-mode repair tool. One mode can repair mechs, including yourself, while the other mode can destroy enemy mechs. If being that close to an enemy doesn't sit well with you, there are two other weapons that fit the bill. One is a sawed-off twin cannon and the other a projectile weapon that fires chemical rounds. Both should deal plenty of damage, but things are a little different now with the rebalances.
Hawken's weapon rebalances mean a reduced burst damage for all types, with the full list available at the source. Automatic weapons now have a bigger role at different ranges; both of those changes are based on player feedback. Information in the game has also been tweaked, with players now able to see mech identity icons next to names and a revamped radar. Mech classifications have been redone, with Type-A, Type-B, and Type-C replacing Class A, B, and C for light, medium, and heavy mechs, respectively.
There's a ton of gameplay changes, bug fixes, improvements, and information on the Technician to go over, so be sure to hit up the source for all the highlights.
