Upcoming free-to-play mech combat game Hawken will support the Oculus Rift when it launches, which adds another title to the VR headset's lineup.
When the Oculus Rift developer kits arrive this December to the appropriate Kickstarter backers, they can check out Hawken and Doom 3: BFG Edition. Only the re-release of Doom 3 supported the VR headset when the Kickstarter launched earlier this month, but that has quickly changed with the addition of Hawken. This means two FPS games can be enjoyed in immersive 3D before the year ends. Consumer kits for the Oculus Rift ship at a later date, and when they do everyone will be able to check out these titles and hopefully others on it.
Hawken lands on December 12 this year and the developer, Adhesive Games, is eager to show what Unreal Engine 3 and the Oculus SDK can do. It will be interesting to see the game come to life in 3D, especially since this is probably the closest to actually piloting a mech anyone will experience for some time. There are still a few days left on the Oculus Rift Kickstarter, but only pledges of $300 and higher secure a developer kit.
