Ok I just saw the ending. What the hell... How will an AC4 even look like?
Well, here's a couple of things we can hope for.
We weren't playing as Desmond all along, all this time some descendant from in the future, his son perhaps, might be in an Animus viewing his father's travels through the past, in a way they wanted to teach him the skill his father got from all his past ancestors for whatever reason they needed, probably a way to imprison Juno, it worked before somehow, so it could work again if they found out somehow, and the story might be some time later in the future, long after 2012, when a supposedly Desmond son is grown up and old enough, to handle the tasks, and the others that were on Desmond's team did a lot of research into Juno, and what happened before, and how they manage to imprison Juno, and it's now up to Desmond's son, somehow he had a son, he probably banged a hooker or somehting, or donated to a sperm bank, who knows, and they probably had to look for his lost son somewhere, and it's now his task to do whatever needs to be done.
in AC Brotherhood 16 mentioned his son, and find Eve, what does that mean? What were all those riddles about Adam and Eve in AC2? nothing has been mentioned or went to that direction at all since then, and it didn't make much sense seeing the outcome of Desmond now, so somehting else must be going on, because this doesn't seem like a way to finish this character off just like that, especially a main character, a bunch of writers, including the voice actor of Shaun wrote some of the story for AC3, so one of them should not come to the decision to end this character off without preperation to what the real deal is behind that.
Anything is possible.
Then there's also 16, who kinda is speculated to went along with Desmond in Revelations when he woke up, since Desmond's right arm was glowing, it might be a little hint that 16 emerged himself into Desmond.
In Ac3, Desmond's right arm was burned black after touching the thingy that kept Juno Locked, so there's a possibility that 16 might have sacrifised himself through Desmond, and Desmond might only be unconciense or in another coma, while Juno came to the conclusion that he's dead, because that's what happens when you touch the thing, and just moved on to Business without checking on him
Kinda like sacrificing your soul to the devil, only Juno and even Desmond didn't know that 16's soul might be inside Desmond, and it's his soul that got sacrified, and not Desmond's.
Or maybe Desmond somehow did knew, since he kinda wanted that 16 has a name, corrected Rebecca on that his name is Clay, and it might also be why he made a quick decision in sacrifising himself, supposedly, a leap of faith, to see what he choosed to do will be the right decision, and that he might come back after this.
Who knows, I'm sure that a long well known series like this, cannot just be ended in this way, there's more behind it.
Unless the writers and everyone working on it are actually dumb enough that this is what they decide to end the story with, after years of development and planning, then they don't do their job right.
