the end battle |

Wiki Pages
ok, so by now most of us have beaten the End. The first tiem i foguth him, it was a real sniper duel, and it was very intense. Truly the high point of the game for me. I started the fight around 8 o clock the first time i fought him. it went on non stop until sumtime after 1, and i was victorious, using only my sniper rifle and thermal goggles.
how long did it take people to beat the end the first time they fought him and what tactics did u use? what interesting things have u found during ur fight against him? lets share war stories, y'all If this is a repeate of an older thread, of course feel free to vaporize it.

well my first time through i had to go pick up the sniper rifle becuz i for got to pick it up before you first meet him. i did it this way.
1. ran around till he shot at me so i new were he was. 2. took out d-mic to here him breathing. 3. stood by spot were he goes and waited for him. this work very well for me it took me around 30 min. the first time. how ever i did it in under 5 the second time by following him and shooting him with my mk22 or my .45 ------------------- IM BACK!! Took me an hour and a half.
I didn't have the thermal goggles and i never used the directional mic. I also thought that The End would already be in whatever area i went into. I didn't know he would stay in the north part if i went into the east part, i thought he would be in the east part automatically. So, i ran around completely frustrated, confused, and disoriented for an hour. Getting shot in the face time and time again from a very well hidden and very far away End. Everytime i got shot, i would check the map to see the end in the farthest away spot possible. I didn't hit him ONCE. After a long time, his stamina was getting low. I was hopeful of a stamina victory. At that moment, The End starting talking. Then his stamina began regenerating until it was completely full again. This is when i shut off the game. I came back later, and i meant business. Using the sonar, i located The End and popped a few shots off. He ran away, and i followed. I caught him again at his next spot and squeezed a few more rounds off. I continued this process for a while (sometimes he would run away and i wouldn't be able to find him again for a while) and eventually i defeated him. Some people find this fight to be fun, but i did not. ------------------- ![]()

I don't know, maybe 30-40 min. I used the MK22 to kill him because I didn't have the shotgun (which can kill him after finding him 2-3 times) and his energy was low so.

quote Timber WolfI agree. This battle can be very frustrating. On Extreme, you only get 22 MK22 bullets, and it sucks when you're about to kill him but run out of bullets. When you finally are able to reload, you will have already lost his location. I've beaten this game many times, but this battle still gives me trouble sometimes. I don't use any weapon other than the MK22 because I want to obtain the Mosin Nagant every time I play.

true, when im going for a speed victory, this battle is a pain in the ass cause it inevitably takes longer than any other boss in the game. how can that old foggie run faster than snake?
does anyone know if a time out victory (where u save the gaem, come back to it in a week and he dies of old age) counts as a human killed against u att he end of the game?

No, it doesn't count as a kill. If you do that trick, The End dies of old age. You can think of it as The End "killing" himself.

It took me about 2 hours on Normal, and about 30-40 minutes on Hard-Extreme. I always use the same tactic: wait for him to take a potshot on me first, then squeeze off a quick SVD shot, and then follow him after that, using the .45 or M37. To keep on his trail, I use the thermal goggles or D-mic, as the sonar or AP proximity sensor are next to useless.
It's a battle loaded with atmosphere, and I love it. Nothing in the MGS series thus far as been as satisfying for me, as creeping up on this bastard and unloading a shotgun into his head. A close second was accomplishing this task with the tranq gun.

yea, a far cry from sniper wolf, who wasnt much mroe than a marksman (marks woman?) to thier defense, they ddint really have the technology to do a real sniper battle in MGS, it would have been like trying to do one on the original NES game. but indeed, this is the first rendition of a sniper battle that comes close to what i have read in things like "Marine Sniper" (the true story of Carlos Hathcock, the guy that every sniper movie rips off when their hero sniper shoots the bad guy sniper right thru the scope and in the eye....thats right, hathcock really did that to a vietcong) and it compares favourably to what i know being a hunter and marksman myself.
i wouldnt mind fighting sniper wolf in a redone version of th two battles, where she could have similar abilities to the end, camoflauge etc. unlike most, i like sniper wolf. what can i say, im a sucker for a chick with a big set of bullets.

Actually Mark's Woman is Gina, but that's neither here nor there.
As I've repeatedly said to every horny lil' bastard on these boards, Sniper Wolf is a terrible character. (See my recent take on All the Boss Characters.) She's merely inserted to have a woman present in the story to counter the whore-factor of Meryl. She has far too much emotion for a proper sniper, people who are meant to be cold tacticians, willing to lie still for hours, or days, if necessary. Finally, with The End, we MGS players received a proper sniper duel, if that's what you wanted. I've read about the repeated Hollywood "shot-through-the-eye" account that you speak of. I didn't know the guy's name, though. All of my favorite Hollywood sniper lore comes from Dolph Lungren's Silent Trigger, in which he famously uses "the big gun", a Barrett M-82 .50 cal semi-auto rifle. Here's a link for that as well.

am i sick? cause that Barret .50 cal makes me hornier than sniper wolf did back in the day, and i was like 14 or 15 back then. does that make me like one sick little bastard?
and yea, that was his name, Gunnerey Sergeant Carlos N Hathcock, II, who holds the militaries record fro confirmed kills at 93, about 80 of wich he got in about 6 months. Theres a book about him called "Marine Sniper" with a few good chapters in it, one where he hunts an enemy sniper (the one with the eye shot like i was talking about) and one where he asasinates an enemy general behind enemy lines and all alone, as well as a few other good chapters. if ur into war books its a good read. also, ive head that the real life snipers that the characters in enemy at the gates were based on, the russian one killed the german one like that at stalingrad, but im not sure if its true or just mythology, but i know for sure that hathcock did it.

The first time I fought the End, I'd say it take me about 50-something minutes. At first I just ran out into the open, fired off a shot so that he'd shoot at me. Once I found a place to hide, I would look at the map to see his location, look through the sniper and shoot him. I continued this for a while until I accidentally walked right up to him. I shot his head with the SVD and he ran off. I put on the thermals and followed his footprints to his next location and did it again. He died eventually.
