Season Passes in Games

It's working well for developers so it's irrelevant if it's a good or bad idea. Sony's been doing very well with Playstation Plus as well which is in a similar vein.

Thinking it's an attempt to catch users who wouldn't normally keep a game for that long. There's tons of console players who will have a game for a few days and then bounce it back for cash. It's why developers started announcing and releasing DLC earlier, trying to hit that window when people still had their game, but with the pre-order DLC trails, they can string those users in without needing to make an extra move.

I say "console players" specifically because that is not actually feasible to do on PC, not because the players wouldn't do the same if they had the option.

I don't really like the idea too much, but I bought the Borderlands 2 Season Pass before launch. I like to think it is because I got both the game and Season Pass for less than the cost of the game new, but I most likely would have picked it up anyways. The only part I like is the discounted cost compared to buying each separately, but that is negligible if you wait long enough for the GOTY edition anyway.

KR_1250 - DLC passes work, most companies only intend to support their game for a determined period of time, so they know how far out they are going to be releasing DLC for. I like this idea. Forza's case is something that I didn't know about, other games clearly state the number of DLC's that they will support with the pass.

In this kind of situation NO, I dont think passes are a good idea. I mean will I have to buy another season pass to cover that DLC and any others they decide to roll out? Pah.

The thing about these underhanded season passes is that companies do themselves out of future support.

For example i will never buy another Forza season pass because i feel they were dishonest or at least unclear and misleading regarding the first. If i am paying an extra £15 i dont want to be told in 3 months that the pass has run out and i have to buy the new content seperately. Shocking way of doing things.

I do love the idea of "COD Elite" or "BF3 Premium" type services. Maybe not necessarily those specifific ones but i do like the honest and straight forward idea of prepaying for ALL DLC at a discount.

I avoided COD elite but I dont regret buying the BF3 premium at all.

So you are saying it is possible over time that Borderlands 2 will have a GOTY Edition for it? Possibly yes more thank likely. It still gets aggravating whether a game will or will not have one. I haven't downloaded the season pass yet for Borderlands 2, but will soon.
