Introvert or Extrovert - Page 3

I think everyone can be both. I can be happy by myself without anyone for awhile, be creative by myself, work out, and just be alone. But at the same time I love being around my friends because it's a different kind of happiness/joy. You can be happy alone, which I can be. But hanging out with people is a different feeling is what I'm saying.

I love being with people, but I like to be alone a lot more because recently a lot of people just turn me off and are just really stupid.

I can make friends easily and I'm outgoing/crazy but I don't need 100000000 friends. A couple of REAL friends is all I need.

A lot of people make the mistake of calling themselves an introvert when really it's that they have some other treatable problem (eg, bad social skills or anxiety or depression or whatever) that makes them feel uncomfortable around people (but you'll notice if they have one or two people they can feel comfortable around -like siblings or whatever-they'll act like a giant extrovert around them :L)

Like i mean, i have a bunch of introverted behavioural stereotypes, like enjoy time by myself a lot, and if i spend all my days off from work going out i almost feel like i haven't had any days off. Also when i'm with friends i generally don't speak until spoken to and what have you, but then at the same time i've been like chronically shy since i was a baby (I was that weird kid that hid under the table in nursery all the time 8)!) so i dunno if it's just my massive shyness affecting that.

It has more to do with whether interaction with people keeps you energized or mentally tires you out. Just because one may appear extroverted around good friends and family doesn't necessarily mean that they are simply shy around people they don't know - perhaps they just don't have much, if any reason to talk to other people. Generally speaking, introverts would rather say nothing than something they consider insubstantial, and the same goes for conversation topics.

Having said that, I definitely get what you're saying. A good amount of so-called "introverts" are just extroverts with some social issues. A bit of alcohol usually helps solve that. In fact, if you want to figure out who is what, just get them tipsy or even drunk.

One could say that I am Introvert, I don't like going out with a group of people and I rather just stay home and be by myself watching tv or doing something else. But that doesn't stop me from socializing since I do a good job at that. Though, when I meet people at first I am quiet but once I get to know them or know how far I can go I tend to go a little crazy.

I'm on the border. Socializing definitely exhausts me, but I also enjoy people and want to get to know them. I just need my Me Time after a good hour or two of social time.

I've always found it funny when people yammer on about how introverted they claim to be and yet they post on an internet forum semi-regularly. unless the ratio of introversion:extroversion is like 60:40%, I'm always willing to assume there's a problem that makes you the way you are, like what Vex The Pirate said. I mean fair enough if you're cool with the small amount of friends you have and if the partying scene isn't your thing - I used to think it was for me but then it turned out I was just really *bleep*en unhappy and had no idea what I wanted to do with myself besides party and turn up to uni - but at the same time, what's to say you didn't turn out the way you did by choice? what if there's just some underlying problem and your extroverted side really wants out but either because your school was full of dickheads (like mine) or you were constantly told that you're worthless/retarded/whatever, it's not coming out... until you drink yourself silly.

having said that, I would consider myself an extrovert despite not being near the party animal that I used to be. basically speaking, I love being around people. I just don't want to be drinking like crazy again just to be with a bunch of drunks and wind up forgetting every night like I'm going to live forever or some shit. I prefer to be around people that I can have at least a half decent conversation with or play sports with or something fun like that.

This sounds like me too. I adore hanging out with my friends and I'm not some socially inept person; however, I definitely recharge by staying at home and playing video games or watching a movie or whatever. It doesn't mean that I shun human contact -- I just recharge my batteries differently.

I know someone who is extremely extroverted and just thinking about her life style makes me tired. Every day she needs to go out with friends on her lunch break, after work she HAS to go have coffee with someone, and every weekend she has to go out. If she doesn't get to see friends like every day then she honestly gets grumpy and depressed. It's crazy how people can be so different.
